Baby's 1st vibrator... haha

So last night DH was setting up the PNP we will be using as a bassinet at first. Everything was going smoothly (well as smoothly as any of these assembling projects go) when he gets this confused look on his face while holding the little box that came with it that hangs on the side and makes music. I asked him if the directions were confusing or if it took batteries we didn't have. He informs me that it vibrates. Yeah.... ok, so what? He then wants to know why in the world it would vibrate. I told him some babies like it, like an alternative to being rocked or carried around, it can be soothing. Still unsure, he installs it and turns it on. "Oh my God, it does vibrate! (Pauses to feel) That's supposed to soothing? That would drive me f'in nuts!" I told him if LO doesn't like it, we won't use it. I found his fascination/learning about baby stuff quite amusing. Anybody else's SO learn or become confused about baby items or common techniques lately?

  • The PNP we have has the vibrating box thing as well...  I can't get it to work for some reason.  I put new batteries in everything.  The music box part and light part work but i can't get the vibrating to work.  It took my DH about 5 minutes of putting the pack and play together before he gave up.  Tonight we are putting together the crib... we will see how he does with this.  He is one of those guys that doesn't read instructions and just try's to "cave man" everything together.

  • DH is thoroughly confused by the whole wearing-baby thing.  He likes the bjorn-style, "sporty" carriers that I think he envisions using for long walks and stuff, but the idea of wearing the baby around the house is just really weird to him - he's like, "just hold the baby, or put it down! What's the big deal?" I told him some babies like to be held a lot and this lets you "hold" them while having your hands free to do other things; he's still skeptical but we'll see what he thinks when LO gets here!

Ours didn't work right away either, so DH took the batteries out to make sure they were in the right way (which they were) and put it back together and and then viola, it worked.  Odd, I know.

Good luck with the crib!  Our nursery isn't even done yet, still putting up chair rail and then he wants to wash the carpets before any furniture goes in.  However, the PNP is ready to go and the changing table is assembled in the guest room for now.

My DH also likes the bjorn-style ones for himself.  I was lucky enough to have a friend give us their Moby, which I think I'll like for around the house and maybe grocery shopping (was sturdier than first expected).  I think you'll get more done with a sleeping baby on your chest hands-free than checking on them every 10 minutes, especially in those early weeks.  I think a lot of men have to see it to believe it.

  • unfortunately, the vibrating seat didn't help my son. He's 4 now. I remember we put in batteries hoping for a miracle.. so such luck ;)
  • Haha My DH tends to actually read the "weekly" email that i forward on to him (usually Baby Center) and then reports things to me like facts. its hilarious bc i dont really read these emails thru & i'm either oh wow or yea ok everyone knows that.

I have to say registering for baby stuff was easier than our wedding -- I learned to only have him pick out the big stuff or I have to walk around explaining the reasoning behind everything. We didn't register for important things for our wedding like pots & pans or a vacuum because he felt his 6yr old stuff was still good... ugh literally paying for new stuff now that its all crapped out like i said it was a year ago! lol learned my lesson & took a GF for all the silly baby stuff :P

  • IMO, the PNP's vibrator is too strong, but maybe baby will like it.  I think the one in our bouncer is a nicer, soothing vibration.  I guess time will tell.
