Hip pain.. any suggestions?

My hips hurt!  They have been hurting on and off for about a month now.  Lately it has gotten a bit worse though, just a constant dull pain like they need to crack or something but wont.  I assume this is just from the pressure on them or him hips widening or something.

I do stretches, leg lifts and such to try and help it  but its not doing much.

Anyone have any suggestions with hip pain associated with pregnancy? Anyone else experiencing this?

  • I have hip pain from time to time - but I have also had surgery on my right hip, so things are a little crazy with that side and all the stretching.  What about soaking in a warm tub of water with Epsom Salts?  My OB said that Epsom salts are fine as long as you aren't drinking them, and I use one of those thermometer duckies to make sure the water does not get too hot...  It seems to help with my hip (and also my lower back!)

  • Can't stress enough the pillow between your knees at night. That has saved me from horrible hip pain!!

  • Yea the few times I have remembered to put a pillow between my legs it has helped.  I should make that a nightly thing... hm...

  • Yeah, I've had some serious hip pain. I fell in the store about two months back and I'm not sure I've ever fully recovered... added with the extra baby weight and it's painful :( Nevertheless, as another poster said, a pillow works wonders. My doctor also said a hot compress is safe.

  • I go to a chiropractor who specializes in prenatal adjustments.  I have hip pain and this has helped to relieve it greatly!

  • A prenatal massage would help greatly with this. Also, you can get a foam roller and use that on the glutes. You can get them at places like Academy, or just online on amazon. You want to sit on the glute/hip muscular area (stay away from bones) and roll until you feel a painful spot, and then stay on that spot until the pain lets up. I think they will usually have a little DVD that comes with them to show you how to use them.
