I've got PUPPP!

I thought my skin was just dry and itchy from being stretched tight, but Doc tells me today that it's PUPPP! What a weird condition. Basically a belly rash on my stretch marks (all around my belly button), and it itches to high heaven!!! My doc says it won't go away until I give birth (terrific) but I can take Benedryl and put cortisone cream on it.

Anyone else out there with the red bumpy belly itchies?

  • Hahaha that would be insane of me to get a puppy right now (the pup I have is 1 1/2 years old and he's more than a handful)!! I thought someone might see the title that way and chuckled to myself, what a weird name for a condition! The full name is

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy

    LOL what a mouthful!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try Eucerin. I've been putting regular lotion on it and it does help for a while, but it gets itchy again pretty quick. I've also been having bad allergies over the past couple days, so I'm going to take some benedryl tonight and hit the hay.

  • Me Too!  I was going to post about it.  It is freaking awful.  I really need to get some Cortaid soon.  I've been putting BioOil on about five times a day and that usually helps for a while.  The internet also says that Grandpa's Pine Tar soap supposedly helps but I haven't tried it yet.
  • I have it too (lucky us)...I take benadryl when it gets really bad. I have also been using Johnson & Johnson baby oil gel in the shower. My dr told me to try Aveeno oatmeal bath. I bought it but it has been sitting on the back of my toilet so I can't tell you if it helps.

  • I had PUPPP with my first. It was awful! I got it around week 38 and was miserable so I got induced at 39 weeks thinking it would go away after birth. Unfortunately, it took about another 2 weeks for it to subside. It even spread to my upper inner thighs. So far, I've been lucky this second time around. Praying I don't get it again! I hope you find some medication that gives you comfort!

  • I was also going to suggest Pine Tar Soap.  Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies!

So far, the cortisone cream is helping the most, Benedryl didn't do crap for me last night, I was still up until 12:30/1:00 after taking it at 8:30. I do have to reapply often though, as the itch comes back full force within a couple hours.

Just two more weeks until I'm due, I hope it doesn't take too long to clear up after I deliver!!

  • I feel your pain! I started with it around 30 weeks! After trying lots of lotions and cortisone creams.....I actually started doing nothing and it's kind of drying out and is less irritated. The more stuff I would put on it the worse it got! This is crazy but I let the hot water run over it in the shower which makes it soooooo itchy but I don't scratch at it's gotten better.

  • I think I might have it, too. I forgot to ask the dr about it at my appointment today.

  • Did you try oral Benadryl or just a Benadryl cream or gel?
