Excessive/constant blinking in toddler? (Sorry to be a PW)
Sorry to be a PW today. . . I had to go pick up DD from daycare due to a fever. . . so now I'm sitting around, unplanned, with lots on my mind!
Anyway, yesterday after work we noticed that DS Would. Not. Stop. Blinking. It would be several intense blinks in a row, followed by a break . . . then it started up again. He was also squinting/ squeezing his eyes shut.
I asked him if his eyes hurt (and used the sign for hurt), and he half-heartedly said "yeah" - but I'm honestly not at all confident that he understands "hurt" (we've been working on it, but only recently).
WWYD? Anything? Dr. Google said that blinking can be a tic (tick?) and not a cause for concern. But the squeezing his eyes shut seems like it could indicate pain/ irritation. (DH suggested dry eyes.) Of course, if it is "something", it's more likely neurologic than ophthalmologic, says Dr. G. . . .
In the past we've commented that he squints (not a lot, but enough for us to notice), and his eyes are very sensitive to light. . . but last night was the first we noticed the constant/ excessive blinking.
Worth a call to the pedi? Visit to a pedi ophthalmologist? Other? Nothing?

Dillon has a tik with his eye. It only happens in certain situations, when he is nerous mostly meeting new people or going innew places he is unsure about. It is not constant and only lasts a few minutes (I think when he becomes more at ease). The doctor said to keep an eye on it, but it normally corrects itself.
I would keep an eye on your son and see if it is a constant thing - if it is constant, call the pedi - because I don't believe tiks are constant.

My daughter starting doing this around the same age...around two actually. It was a tik. Basically DO NOT mention it ever. Let it go. Typically tiks go away after a few months but they can come back.
Do not talk to him about his eye. If it hurts or is bothering him he will probably let you know....but if he is just sitting there doing it that is different.
My daughter stopped after about 2 months.
It could still be irritation. It is worth calling the pedi and then they will determine if he needs to see a opthamologist or not. My daughter already sees one and he saw her and told me that just to watch it but do not make a big deal about it. If it is a tic and you talk about it in front of him or to him you can actually make it worse.
