Update on Millie.

For those of you who read about my Scottish Terrier Millie's time in emergency care, I wanted to give you all an update.
First of all, thank you all for your prayers and warm wishes. They made me cry in a good way which is something that I really needed. Secondly, we were finally able to bring Millie home today. We had to transfer her back and forth between the emergency clinic for overnight observation and the vet's office for daytime observation. It was very difficult seeing her perk up each time I picked her up knowing that I'd have to drop her off again.
She isn't fully out of the woods, but the vet felt that she wasn't going to improve enough unless she was home with her mommy and daddy. I believe that he came to this conclusion because they had been trying to get her to eat since yesterday and she wouldn't touch anything. However, I asked if I could try to feed her this morning, and she ate a couple of bites out of my hand. After I left, she went back to not eating. I was finally able to pick her up at 6p.m., and as long as she doesn't start to throw up and doesn't get the runs again, she won't have to go back.
To make things even better, she perked up when DH and I were eating dinner so we decided that it was time to try solid food for her. We brought over a ground beef and rice mixture that the vet suggested and she didn't just eat it, she devoured it. She really was waiting to eat until she was home with her parents. It's been over an hour since then, and she's holding the food down. I'm about ready to cry happy tears again.
Thank you all again for helping with her recovery. I truly believe in the power of positive thoughts and prayers.

Awww...I just got chills from reading your post. Great news, so glad you had a good, positive update to share.

The only thing they know for sure was that it was a bacterial infection that upset her GI track. However, they sent her bloodwork out to test it for a bacteria called Lepto. We will find out by the end of the week or early next week if she tested positive. We really need to know, because if it is Lepto, not only can our other pets catch it, but we can catch it as well. It is passed from urine through any mucous membrane. I have been washing my hands religiously after handling her, and if she is positive, we'll have to test our other dog and cat and probably put them on antibiotics. She could have gotten this from any random animal that passed through our yard and sprayed. If it's negative, then she probably ate some trash at some point that upset her. Here's hoping for negative bloodwork.
