When to stop traveling?

I forgot to ask my OB about this at my appointment today. I travel an hour for work for meetings a few times a month to another town, I just got notice of a mandatory meeting on Jan. 27th, I will be 36 weeks, I would have to drive to another town an hour away.

At what point do I say I cant attend out of town meetings, I think I should be okay at 36 weeks, I think I will have a late baby, but you never know.

At what point are you ladies stopping events further than an hour away? Or when did OB/MW suggest to stop?

Re: When to stop traveling?

  • I would tell your OB that attendance is dependent on health of baby etc. Most airlines require a note starting 37 weeks, so I think you're okay driving at 36. Smile

  • I'm planning on driving 4 hours to my baby shower in a few weeks, so at 36-37 weeks (and then, of course, I'll have to drive back). I'm a little worried, but worse case I give birth at the hospital in my parents' town instead of my "home" hospital. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. I wouldn't be too worried about an hour-long trip.

  • I actually live about an hour from my hospital but work 5 minutes from the hospital.  I would say an hour trip really isn't bad...

I can amend my response, if you want :)

  • I commute an hour away from my hospital (longer if traffic) and I wasn't planning on stopping work until I see some pretty clear signs of potential labor (or, b/c of our complications, when our peri appts indicate its time to induce).

But you could always ask your OB to do you a solid and say no travel after 36 :)

I agree, you could always ask your dr if s/he would be willing to "restrict" you from traveling long distances after 36wks. The worse s/he can say is no.
