So I work in retail in a boutique that has been very popular in the past but is being really crushed by a major chain that moved into the mall a few months back. Now we are cutting back staff and hours and now my full time schedule is being reduced to only 15-20 hours per week!! Even though it IS a relief for my knees, it is NOT a relief on my bank account which is dwindling faster with the baby room being renovated (we had to change the floors and rip out a wall due to water damage and other fun stuff). I am also really concerned about how this is going to effect my income when I go on mat.leave. Does anybody know how it works in Canada? I know its 40%, but 40% of what; my average salary? If so, starting from when? I would just get a second job under normal circumstances but nobody is really jumping up and down to hire a 19 week pregnant lady who's going to leave probably before her probation period is up. GAH! So frustrated and stressed. I even have to get a mouth guard to sleep cause I've started clenching my teeth at night due to stress. ANY advice or insight? Anybody else go through this??
Re: Job is just adding to my stress :/
In Canada it is 55% of your average weekly insurable earnings, up to a certain maximum. You can find lots of information on the Service Canada website here: https://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/ei/types/maternity_parental.shtml#much
The average is calculated based on the 52 weeks prior to you beginning maternity/parernity leave.
Hope this helps!
