NBR: Almond Butter

Is there an easy way to stir the stuff up? Every time I open a new jar, I stir and stir and end up spilling some of the oil everywhere. Today, I splattered it all over a new shirt and my favorite pair of jeans Angry

Tips?

  • Ugh!

I've found that the one you can get at HEB out of the machine, where it grinds it right there in front of you, doesn't get all thick and nasty or require much stirring at all.

I mean, I guess, if you left it in the pantry long enough, it would, but judging from how you talk about your diet, I think it's something you probably go through pretty quickly. Maybe try switching?

  • I make husband do it.

I've been known to use one of the bread beaters for the electric mixer (the one that looks like a cork screw) to stir it if I needed it before he could do it.

  • I store mine upside down and then open it slowly. The oil will then be on the bottom, but you need to kind of pry the lid off (until you've used about 1/4 of it, then when you turn it right side up before you open it, it will just slide down to the bottom of the jar.

  • All good ideas, thank you!

august - the HEB I frequent doesn't have one of those neat machines, but I may have to stop by another one on the way home from the gym or something because that sounds awesome!

  • I churn.  I stick in a butter knife and slowly work it up and down (::snicker::).  That usually mixes in the oil well enough until it's safe to stir.

This is what has worked well for us too.  We usually all hold out to see who has to mix it up.  I'll go days without a nut butter, not because I don't want any, but because I hate to stir.  I wonder if throwing it in the magic bullet would be productive?

yeah, that's what the husband does. I get messy whenever I do it. I just showed him how to once and now he does it for me :) I just hand it to him.

I decided b/c the counters are really a bit too high for me and there's no safe way for me to stir oily substances and thus, they are now husbands job :)

I vote no.  I can't imagine getting all that gooey, sticky stuff in and then out of a blender.  Ugh.
