When baby was in the hospital

Did they wear hospital provided clothes, or did you change them into their own?

Re: When baby was in the hospital

  • I've been watching birthing shows and noticed a lot of people have their babies in regular clothes. We just left DD in the t-shirt they gave us, a diaper, and swaddle. Maybe I'm a bad parent for not knowing it was even an option to change her.

  • She was in there clothes until we were ready to come home. I think we were in the hospital 36 ish hours, so it wasnt a big deal. She was always swaddled too.

She wore a little puppy dog outfit on the way home, that was 30 times too big. I made H stop at Walmart on the way home and I waddled my fat a** in for a few premie outfits, some stool softner, some hemroid cream, and ibuprofin. lol

I bet you are really glad I added all that info in there, arnt ya?!

  • DS was in the hospital clothes the whole time.  It just seemed easier that way.

  • We didn't change his clothes until the day we left. But we did put one of our swaddle blankets in with him, so that H could take it home and let the dogs smell it. (So they could be familiar with his smell.) What do you think you will do this time?

I don't know. Baby clothes are such a PITA when they're newborns. I'm going to do everything I can to avoid onesies for the first few months, that's for sure.

  • DH bought a bunch of clothes to the hospital because he wanted baby in his own clothes instead of the hospital t-shirt & blanket.  We quickly discovered most everything we had was too big and made a trip to Target the first week to buy some newborn sized stuff.  He came home in a NB sized sleeper that my parents bought for him when they found out I was pregnant.

  • Hospital clothes. Hell, I wore a gown almost til we left. I'm kind of allergic to extra laundry.

Hell, when we came home she was in all kimono fold t shirts and fleecey jammies for a month, heh

  • I used hospital provided. But I was also terrified to dress him at the time. I was so afraid of breaking him.... I know pathetic.

It may be different with number two  not that I am not so nervous. But when SIL had her first baby she changed him to his new clothes. And everytime he would go with the nurses and come back he would be in hospital clothes and she would put a new outfit on him again.

  • She stayed in just the hospital shirt and swaddled most the time.  We had to keep getting her naked to wake her up enough to nurse and one time I slipped on of our onesies on her instead of the shirt.  Then she was just in that and swaddled.

  • I changed both kids into our own clothes. Just the newborn sleep gowns with the open bottom. I wore loose jersey pants and my nursing tank tops with a cardigan. I feel weird being the only one on here, but we had a lot of visitors and I hated those gowns. A personal thing too with it being the hospital I work at. I thought of all the things I'd seen happen in the hospital provided clothes. I imagine I'd be the same about bed sheets if I worked at a hotel, LOL. Again my own personal thing. I know everything is very well cleaned its just me.

  • he & i for that matter, where in hospital clothes the entire 5 days. i am so grossed out by hospitals that i didn't want his new, clean clothes in there. we changed him into one of his outfits on our way out. i think we'll probably do that same with this little guy, too. i'll probably stash an outfit just in case b/c i don't know much about this hospital yet, but this time around h or my parents could always bring more. they'll be busy at home a lot of the time with ds#1.

Funny you say that because I actually worked at a hotel in housekeeping. I'm not usually too concerned about the sheets, it's the top blanket that skeeves me out. I throw it on the chair in the corner immediately upon arrival. The ENTIRE time I worked at big name hotel that Chingy wrote a song about we did not wash the top blankets ONCE. Blagh. *shudders*

GROSS! I've heard that before and can't stand to touch the top blanket either, ick!

  • I had fun playing with my new "dolls" in the hospital, so I dressed them in the outfits I brought for them the second I got a chance! I didn't have anything better to do, we were there from Tues-Saturday, and they never left my room.

ETA: BUT I didn't dress myself haha I loved those hospital gowns, they made BFing much easier too.

  • Honestly nothing beat the hospital t-shirt w/ built-in mittens + hat + swaddle.  She was 5 lbs 3 oz so it was more of a dress on her anyway.  We stocked up on them, they told us to pack the ones we used & take more because they don't wash and reuse them, they get thrown away if any are put in the linen basket or left behind.  We did dress her in her own outfit for the ride home, which looked ridiculous because it was so huge on her.  SIL went and got some preemie outfits, but at home for the first week we kept her in the hospital t-shirt and layered footed jammies over that.
  • DD was in the NICU until a few hours before we left the hospital so I didn't have the option to change her anyway (at least, no one suggested it to me and it didn't occur to me to ask). I'm with Broc and would not have wanted the extra laundry. I also stayed in the gown most of the time. I felt gross and didn't want to be in my regular clothes when I felt so not like a regular person.

  • I'm like ffejsgirl - I had pajamas with matching robes (like 2 or 3 of them). When I got to the hospital they asked if I were going on a vacation retreat because of all of our luggage! LOL I got dressed as soon as I could - it made me feel so much better to be in new pretty pajamas. But I do agree - the hospital gowns were much easier to BF in.

I had a few outfits and blankets for JT but he stayed in the hospital stuff. I guess I'm in the minority here but his take home outfit was actually snug on him! It was so funny!!!
