Re: ***First Year Check-In***
2012- I'm looking forward to all the developmental milestones he will reach : eating, crawling, walking, talking maybe. Oh, and I'd love for his teeth to go ahead and make an appearance so we can sleep again.
I'm not really looking forward to more teething or baby-proofing our tiny house. I have no idea where he will have enough room to play. I am also not looking forward to real poop in his cloth diapers. So far I have loved just being able to throw them in the wash without swishing or scraping.
Update: We started BLW last night with some cucumbers, apples and string cheese. We were having omelettes for dinner, with cucumbers on the side. He got really excited and loved the coldness of the cukes and the sweetness of the apples. He sat on my lap while I ate and fussed until I gave him some of my cucumber too!
Tonight his high chair/booster comes in from Amazon so he won't have to sit awkwardly in his bumbo (hard for him to reach the tray with his short arms). We are having cinnamon chicken and carrots with rice, so it should be interesting!
QOTW: I'm most looking forward to DS and DD getting to actually play together. By the end of the year, DS will be 18 months old (what?????) and that is such a crazy-fun age. I'm not really looking forward to having to start to work on discipline with him. One of my most favorite things about the newborn stage is that my sole responsibility is to feed him and snuggle him. It's hard when you have to start drawing lines for the first time.
Update: Well, after 2.5 weeks of him sleeping 8-6, he's back to waking up at night. Sucky. I blame traveling over the holidays and the cold he has and the two teeth he just got and him learning to sit up and crawl. All in the span of two weeks. Yeah. Oh, and when we went in to get him the night before last, he had pulled up to standing in his crib, so we had to lower that already. He's had a big two weeks!
OMG! This is my last 1st-Year Check in.
Molly will be turning 1 on Saturday. I can remember very clearly what was going on this week last year. Little did I know that a routine BP check on Friday would turn into a delivery that night.
QOTW: What are you most looking forward to in 2012 with your LO? What are you not really looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to Molly saying her first words and finally getting some teeth. She "talks" so much and we have the most entertaining conversations. I can't wait to hear her say "dada" or "mama"... or any word for that matter.
I'm also really looking forward to the friendship my children are developing together. Ben and she are positively in love with one another and they really try to play together. They do a great job getting along, but it's sometimes like watching a Great Dane puppy play with a Chihuahua puppy.

Updates: Let us know what's going on with your LO!
Molly is officially a walker! If we're FB friends, you can check out a video I posted of her yesterday. She had been cruising since 8 months, but in the last week or two she has been taking a few steps on her own.
We're graduating from formula to milk so I bought my last can of formula this week (yippee!!) I'm so glad not to have that expense anymore. The only tricky thing is finding foods she can gum. Having no teeth, though, doesn't seem to stop her from eating egg, avocado, pasta, and steamed apples.
QOTW: What are you most looking forward to in 2012 with your LO? What are you not really looking forward to?
i guess everything! he's turning 4 months in a couple weeks, and i heard sleep really starts to even out then, so hopefully he gives us more 6+ hour nights rather than unpredictable choppy sleep.
i'm looking forward to him rolling over, sitting up, crawling, starting solids (although i'm not looking forward to those diapers!), really using his hands and feet and so much more.
Update: i went back to work yesterday and started him at daycare. he was smiling and cooing and having a great time... until they tried to feed him a bottle. he's been really hit and miss with the bottle all december. he went 10 HOURS without eating yesterday. they tried a few times with him just crying at them. i finally left work early to go pick him up and feed him. he ate at 4 pm, 5, 6, 8 and 1 am. talk about tanking up! i sent 2 different nipple types today to see if that makes any difference. hopefully, he figures it out soon.
All of this. When he is happy, he is SUCH a happy baby, so I am really, really looking forward to those teeth. I refuse to think about what it will do to our BF relationship. :-/ I am also looking forward to getting to stay home and spend more time with him.
Updates - Well, I know I am going to jinx it but we just had two nights in a row of what I will call good sleep. It did take over an hour to get him back down at 3:30 this morning, but I will take that because it came with a side of a 5 hour stretch of sleep earlier in the night. Much better than the last 3 weeks where he was waking every 1.5- 2 hours. We have moved him up to the umbrella stroller and he loves it. We go on walks a lot more now and it's so great. I think we're going to go ahead and purchase a convertible car seat this weekend. Hate is not a strong enough word for how he feels about the infant seat. The screaming has got to stop, we can't go anywhere. The second you take him out he is a happy boy again. I feel terrible for his sadness.
Twirpo - So sorry about the refusal to eat. :-( When I first went back to work (and still sometimes on the weekends) I slept with a little lovey and gave it to the nanny so that he had something that smells like me. She said that he would calm down when she held him with it next to him if he was upset. I do the same with his pack n play sheet if we are staying the night away from home. I hope today, and future days, go better for your little guy!
QOTW: I'm looking forward to seeing DD and DS interact and play together more as he gets older. I'm also looking forward to the possibility of him sleeping more than 3 hours at night at some point. (please, God).
I'm not looking forward to teething. DD didn't get teeth until the week of her 1st birthday, so we were weaning at that point anyway. DS is a voracious eater and I'm scared of him biting me (which I know, I'll get over if it happens). I'm also not looking forward to the crankiness of teething.
Update: Well, he's stretched out to eating every 3 hours at night rather than every 2, so he's improving. It's just so different from DD, who was sttn at a very early age. I think he's still having some digestive issues (lots of gas and fussiness and still lots of spit-up, some projectile, even with meds). I plan to talk to his pedi today at his 2-month appt (and am looking forward to seeing how much he weighs since he was 14 lbs 9 oz at 6 weeks- with a onesie and diaper though).
thanks. i just feel so bad for him. i did mean to bring the tank top i wore under my shirt yesterday so that he would have something that smelled like me today - but it got left at home in our rush to get out the door this morning. so far, he's refused a bottle this morning and instead of crying nonstop, he just fell asleep on them! i'll see if they call me again to let me know if he ate after he wakes.
I'm going to do one final first year check in.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I keep looking at this "little girl" playing in my house and am just in awe of her.
In 2012, I'm looking forward to a whole new person! She is SO SO different than last year, obviously. She is so neat. Most recently, she's started copying our actions. I was using a power drill to add some steps to our back deck. She picks up a small screw drive that was next to me and started pushing it under the deck like I was. She even layed on the ground with me! Same thing with the shovel. She picked up the small one and started knocking at the ground. Also, we were looking for her balls that roll under the sofa. When I got down on my stomach, she copied me and got down on her stomach and stuck her arm under the sofa. I was shocked when she came back out with her yellow ball!
The first year was amazing. AMAZING. And I can tell the second one is going to be just as exciting.
Oh, and I just had to add ... she's started yelling at the dogs, and it's sadly cute. When we feed her, the dogs always come over to steal food. We tell them to, "Go lie down!" Now whenever the dogs come around during meal time, she points to the living room and says, "Go! Go!"
Okay, enough rambling about my baby. Happy first year to all of you!
QOTW: I look forward to everything! I can't wait to see her crawl, walk, talk, reach out for me/DH, chase the dog, etc. Everyday I look forward to the next milestone!
I do not look forward to baby proofing, like someone preciously mentioned. I realized that the other day that it might be a big task!
Update: We went to a friend's house for NYE and stayed the night. DD did so well! We brought all of her things, pnp, sleep sheep, Swaddle, monitor, etc and put her to sleep using the same routine at home and she did so well. Even when fireworks were going off, which seemed right outside her window, she did great! She slept right through the noise! @Brooke, that is a neat idea about the pnp sheet, I'll have to remember that!
Oh and we have a roller! DD can roll from tummy to back. I'm sure she'll get back to belly soon!
Yay - I have a first-year baby now! Please add me to the list? DS#2 is Dawson, boy, born 12/20/2011. DS#1 is Logan, boy, born 07/10/2008. Thanks.
QOTW: Right now, I am most looking forward to seeing him smile! But in general this year, I am just looking forward to seeing him grow and reach milestones and especially see him begin to interact with his big brother, who completely adores him. I'm not really looking forward to growth spurts (he already nurses A LOT!), teething, and I'm especially dreading going back to work in March, because my shift will be working Nights when I go back, until June. Boo.
Update: Dawson is two weeks old now, and I can't even believe it. It feels like he's been with us for months, and it doesn't help that he's huge and looks like he's a few months old! He was born 9lbs 8oz, but had lost 8oz by the time we left the hospital. At his 1-wk pedi appt last week, he'd lost another 5oz, a total of 9% of his birthweight. Pedi wasn't concerned because it was within the 10%, but really wanted to see him gain by this week's appt, which was yesterday. Yesterday he weighed in at 9lb 4oz!! So he gained 9oz in a week! The little porky pig!
And shockingly (here comes a big old jinx!), he has been sleeping from about midnight to 6am for almost the past week! One night last week, I think I figured out that he was a little bit cold in his room at night. I decided to swaddle him in a Halo Swaddle sack or Miracle Blanket, put a hat on him and then swaddle (a little looser) a fleecy blanket around him with the corner flap under his head, and he slept solid for 6 hours! I keep thinking it's a fluke but he keeps doing it, sometimes it's been 7 or 8 hours. I think there's a growth spurt coming up around next week or so, so I'm sure this will change.
I do remember Logan, on his 2-week birthday, slept a solid 8hrs. I woke up leaking like crazy, and in a panic running to his room to make sure he was breathing because he'd slept so long! And after that, he consistently slept from about 10-4am, got up to eat, then slept again until 9 or 10. Boy am I ever hoping his baby brother takes after him!
