Just curious if anyone is already psyching themselves up or trying to plan a course of action to loose weight after LO is here?? As bad as it sounds, it's something that's been in the back of my mind through the whole pregnancy. I kept telling myself that I was going to "be good" and not go crazy with food while pregnant. I think I've done so-so. I've gained just about 30 lbs. Not horrible, but not fantastic in my opinion since I had a little extra weight to begin with. And with 5 weeks to go, I'm just hoping I can keep from gaining much more!
A little history on me - I've been overweight most of my life. I joined Weight Watchers about 9-10 years ago (WOW! didn't realize it was that long) and lost a ton of weight (a whole person) and got to a healthy weight. Over the years, I've kept most of it off, but slowly gained a bit back. I was trying to get into the habit of going to the gym and toying with the idea of training for a 5k to get that extra weight off when I got my BFP. Since then I've turned into a sloth. lol Mostly because I read an article somewhere that said "If this is your first, make the most of being able to take it easy and relax because if you have more than 1, there isn't much time to relax when you have children running around". So, I sort of took that to heart.
ANYWAY... I'm toying with the idea of going to Weight Watcher meetings again, but wondering if I would be able to follow WW Online by myself. Or wondering if I should just join the gym and see what happens. *shrug* I'm getting the feeling that I may need a bit of a support group this time like I did in the beginning.
Just curious what you ladies are thinking??
Re: Anyone already psyching themselves up for weightloss after baby?
Yes, but my midwife has cautioned my that you can cause yourself more harm than good by starting back too exercise too soon after delivery. She said it's best to start with walking and light stretching and give your body lots of time to heal.
I wave always been pretty trim and happy with my appearance, so gaining so much weight has been difficult for me, personally. I can't wait to get back into my old clothes!
I can not wait to start being active again! I am high risk and have been since the beginning as was told the only exercise that I could do was slow walking for short distances and swimming. Now I am supposed to be really "taking it easy" and not standing/walking for to long etc due to concerns of possible PTL.
I plan to breastfeed so no major dieting when LO arrives, but I do plan to eat healthy for my calories and start a walking routine as soon as possible and build back up to jogging and weight lifting.
I was about 15-20 pounds over weight when I got PG, mostly from the stress, depressive feelings and IF meds that I was one while TTC for 2 years. So far I have gained 24 pounds with this pregnancy, so I will probably have a total of about 50 pounds that I will be wanting to lose, YIKES!
Same here! I get excited thinking about it... With my first pregnancy I gained 32 lbs (9.5 lbs of it was the baby, then around 10 lbs of fluids, etc., then 10 lbs of my own probably), and as soon as i had her i immediately starting eating healthy and in good portions... I was able to lose all the weight in a month, but once i started working out (mainly just walking and running and work-out DVD's or on Demand), my body "tightened" back up, and I felt ready for a bikini by summer (about 5 or 6 months after delivery)... I was very focused, though, and luckily my DH was supportive and super helpful with baby so it allowed me to have some "me" time!
I don't really buy the whole, "Focusing all my attention on the baby" deal and just letting yourself go completely. Obviously your baby is #1 priority, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make yourself a priority at all, so don't let anyone make you feel guilty about trying to get healthy and feel good about yourself after you deliver. You'll have plenty of time to spend with baby, too, AND you'll have more energy
Good luck!!
Most definitely! I lost a ton of weight after DS was born. I was 30 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight but I got lazy and thought I could eat whatever I wanted while BFing and gained all of it back.....every single pound! I joined WW when DS was 1 and lost it all again. I then got lazy (again) and gained about 15 back. Then I got pregnant again. I've only gained 6 lbs thus far (I'm overweight to begin with) so I'm hoping I can drop a ton again and keep it off this time.
Since we are now done having kids I plan on taking this seriously. I know I dont' have time for a gym b/c I work weird hours and go to sleep pretty early. I think WW will be my lifesaver. I was joking with my BFF that i need to be hypnotized to stop eating shyt all the time. That was my downfall while BFing and at the end of my WW journey the first time.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
Definitely!! I want to get back below conception weight by the end of the year, for sure. We're planning to BF, so cutting calories won't really be an option, but I want to get back into the Couch-to-5k thing, and then maybe actually running a 5k.
We'll see.
I don't have much of a "plan" yet, but I do want to get back into shape!

Pregnant after 4 losses via IVF/FET with daughter "Gamma" (EDD Oct 2, 2019)
yes I dream about loosing weight!! lol. i used to be the small girl with no effort. Then I hit 21 and everything changed but I didn't, so i gained weight. i have been half as$ing trying to lose weight ever since. some days/weeks/months i'm really focused, then i nose dive for a while and then get a jump back on track.
we have a free gym in my building that i will have access to until late 2013 (when we move buildings) so my plan is to join weight watchers (they have a meeting that meets in a building beside my at lunch time once a week) and do their brest feeding plan, workout on the other days (that will start when i return to work) and walk more with DS and DD at home.
After DS is born we'll be done having kids and i really need to focus more on getting my act together, eating healthier and teaching DD better habits.
I am so ready to get back to pre baby body. I miss my clothes!
I am hoping it won't be to hard but I'm really excited. I love walking everywhere and our neighborhood is great for that.
I'm ordering this postnatal workout dvd:

also if you need a fitness ball (birth ball) this one comes with a workout dvd so I'm ordering this in a couple of weeks for my home birth:

I also have Heather Seniger's pregnancy yoga workout which has some postnatal workout on it. I really love doing yoga. I never really did it before but since my back has been hurting I do it almost every day - it really helps with my aches and pains!

oh yeah! a few months before I got my bfp I was the smallest I'd been since my early 20's then (which always happens) I gained a ton, before I'd even found out I was pregnant. I tried to put on the shorts I was wearing last spring and couldn't pull them up much past my knees.
I'm formulating a plan right now. I want to be back in those shorts this summer!
I am totally excited about it. My main goal is to be able to do a mud-run in the summer- I think I should be able to be in shape for that within 5 months or so.
I saw one of my girlfriends recently who is still BF'ing her 1 year old. She looks AMAZING now and is even thinner than before her pregnancy.
My midwife says that because I've been active and working out throughout the pregnancy I will likely not have to wait any period of time before I start working out again (reasonably of course). So- I'm looking forward to hitting the gym and the trails by our home. I'm also looking forward to the impact breast feeding will have on my weight. I don't plan on changing my diet much at all since it's been somewhat reasonable (just continuing to work on eliminating sweets). If WW worked for you before then I think it would be a great investment when you are ready post-birth. It's always worked really well for my friends who have done the program.
I?ve also been getting really excited about getting back in shape lately! I think it?s because quite a few of my friends were pregnant, but have already had their babies. They?re all losing their weight, and I just keep getting bigger!
DH set up my treadmill last night (we got it last Christmas and it?s been in the garage for a year in the box!!), and I plan to do BodyRock as well when I?m ready. If you haven?t heard of it, it?s this free online workout series, posted on You Tube and on their own site bodyrock.tv. It?s kind of hardcore, but it was really working for me before my BFP. I could actually do chin-ups and men?s push-ups which I could never do before. It?s really awesome, and free!!
I really wanted to run my first marathon this year, but I?ve been warned that with breastfeeding, it might be hard to get the calories I?ll need. We?ll see?

Baby girl born February 15, 2012
Expecting baby #2 in July!
I started out this pregnancy about 17 lbs over a good weight for my frame, which had not been my plan. I was active, but had the eating habits of a, um, frat boy. Or Paula Deen. Then, about 6 weeks ago, it seemed a good idea to stop being so active. Races are my main source of motivation, so I'm for sure signing up for a 10 mile race in late October, and am seriously considering signing up for a half marathon (my first) in late November. I am really excited to run comfortably again!
Since it's resolution time, a lot of my friends are re-starting exercise habits that died down, so I hear about their plans and get a little jealous. Looking forward to joining them, no doubt there.
Absolutely! Sadly enough, this has been in the back of my head throughout my entire pregnancy. I've always struggled with weight a bit, and dealt with disordered eating when I was much younger. I've gotten that under control for the most part, but still have real issues seeing the numbers on the scale go up instead of down. In fact, I don't own a scale b/c I'd become obsessive over it very easily.
I've already warned DH that I want to start up with a trainer again after the baby comes (used to have one, but quit a few years ago when I changed jobs due to logistics and money). I'm also looking at gym memberships in our area, and I also have already got the jogging stroller ready to go. As well, ILs were getting rid of an elliptical machine, so we now have that in our garage. By the time LO is born and I am cleared to exercise again, it will be in the house and is a big factor in my plans.
I've been walking 3 miles a day 3-4 days a week throughout the pregnancy, which I can hopefully continue once LO arrives. Fingers crossed that I can lose the pregnancy weight plus the 10-15 lbs extra I was carrying before!
Oh, yes! I will be starting couch to 5k as soon as I can to get back into running. MH is on board with morning baby duty before work while I get out and pound the pavement with our dog (who is also looking forward to running again!). Hubby even got me a gift card to a sports shop for my birthday last week so I can get new running shoes. I can't wait! I miss being able to run. And my clothes.
