Warning on wall decals

Saw an earlier post with some super cute ones. I just wanted to mention that DH and I recently bought a few for various rooms in the house. ALL of them have started coming off within days of placement. I believe this is because our walls have "texture" on them. Not like a ton of spackle or anything, but there is a slight bumpiness to the paint (as is in most houses, I think, or at least the ones I've ever lived in). Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this? So annoying, when you spend money on a cool decal and it falls off the next day.

Re: Warning on wall decals

  • We had the same problem with a cheap set of decals we bought, but the other one we bought (a clock) that was slightly more expensive stays up on the wall very well.

  • I used to work for a wall paper company and in my experience there are no "removable" products that don't fall down eventually.. or immediately.

Your issue could be texture, like you mentioned, or it could be the sheen of the paint you're going over. If you have a little bit of a sheen to your wall paint, it will prevent the product from sticking. Or both.

Sorry you're disappointed. Sad That sucks.

  • We have these 3D mirror butterflies on our walls and they keep falling down. DH loves them so much though he is talking about using nail glue to keep them up lol

  • We ordered our decals from DaliDecals. It was 70 circles and none of them have fallen off or started peeling. I was more than pleased with them.

  • i bought one from etsy for DD nursery 2 years ago.. it was holding strong when we took it off to make it DS's nursery.

BUT i've bought cheap ones from Amazon from DD big girl room and they are staying up but i have to press a few spots here and there at times.

  • We were pretty disappointed when our Dr. Seuss decals started falling off right away. I bought some double-sided tape that has helped, and won't do as much damage to the walls as glue.

  • I guess we'll have to see how it goes. Our walls do have a lot of texture, but like I said in the earlier post, my workplace has these decals up everywhere, and they seem to be going strong. Hopefully we won't have any problems.

Darn! We are painting the nursery this weekend and were going to use a semi-gloss finish, because we figured it cleans up easier! Boo!

  • Almost all the Disney Princess ones we got off Amazon fell down immediately. I think Cinderella is still holding strong though...

  • Thats a bummer you have had a bad experience, I love mine. I've actually had them in two different house and never had a problem with them. Textured wall and smooth finished.  I have always wiped the wall with a dry paper towel before putting them up to remove any surface dust, that would prevent the adhesive from sticking too.

  • Another warning-

We had decals on the closet doors and  when DS started crawling he crawled over to one and pulled a corner off of one of them and stuck it straight in his mouth. Thank God I was there to see it and pull it out. We took them all down. Just be aware they are choking hazards if within reach or fall off the wall where they can be reached.
