Help me pick out bedroom curtains!

We need curtains in our bedroom really bad. We have 2 big windows that are on one wall. So the area needing coverage is over 80 inches. We have cellular blinds but they are not room darkening. The wall is sort of Tiffany blue/green. I am lost on a color and style!

I can put a pic of the window in if it will help, just ask. I would prefer to keep cost under $100 if possible. Not sure on length but I an guessing just to the window ledge and not floor, so 50 ish inches if I had to guess.

Thanks!

Re: Help me pick out bedroom curtains!

  • What is the furniture color in the room?  How tall are the ceilings? Is the reason you don't want to do floor length?  Do you prefer solids or something with a print? Does texture matter to you?  What color are the metals in the room (like door handles, knobs on drawers, etc)?

  • Furniture is dark/cherry like, ceiling are standard/low. I guess I feel like floor length will shrink the already small room. All metals are brass/gold except the light fixture which is brushed nickel and a ceiling fan.

I am open to solid or print, I can change out duvet easier than I can pick curtains. Duvet is currently a large print floral that is brown/white. Texture doesn't matter but I didn't want sheer as I hoped for something a little light blocking. Washable is a must as we have pets and fur/dust.

  • You might want to consider floor length.  IMO, it actually makes the room feel taller because it creates a long vertical line that draws the eye from floor to ceiling.  Curtains that are just window length only create a block of color the same size as the window.  But that's my taste and maybe not yours.

Here are links to a few I found:

Boscov's - do you have one near you? Inexpensive, and a good selection.  FWIW, I've found with black out curtains (light blocking) the darker the color the better.  But sometimes if the curtain is a dark color, like brown, and the backing is white, when the sun shines through them the color of the curtain is muted and not what I originally wanted.  Anyway, just something to think about.

Kohl's is having a buy one, get one half off sale on black out curtains: https://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/window_treatments/by_function/blackouts.jsp?icid=wtmo|mol2
