I haven't been too active on here lately, but Sawyer arrived 12/29 at 38w5d.
I went in to my Drs. office on the 27th for a regular visit. They saw that my BP was really high and sent me to the hospital for monitoring. When it wouldn't go down after a few hours they decided to admit me on hospital bed rest for the night and wanted me to do a 24 hour urine sample as well. During the night my BP continued to stay elevated and my platelet count dropped (important for epidural). The Dr. came in the next morning and told me they were ready to induce and didn't want to wait on the results of the urine (although they ended up being in 3,000s instead of 300s!). During the u/s in the office to check on Sawyer we were told he may be around 8 lbs. 13 ozs. YIKES!
I started Pitocin at 10am, Dr. broke my water at 3:15pm (maybe 3cm at this point), painful contractions started around 4:15pm, got epidural at 6pm (had to be topped off 2.5 times for a total of 3.5 doses of epidural medicine). The epidural had pretty much worn off completely by the time I started pushing at 3:15am. I pushed for about 15 minutes before the Dr. came in and told us that Sawyer was sunny side up, and would hopefully turn on his own. He must have done just that, because after an hour and 15 minutes of pushing Sawyer was born, face down, at 4:27am on December 29th. He weighed almost a whole pound more than expected, 9 lbs. 12 ozs. OUCH! and was 22 in. long. He has a gorgeous head of hair that neither of us were expecting.
We've been experiencing some jaundice issues and he's currently on a BiliBlanket, but otherwise he's completely healthy and adorable. My plan was to EBF but we had issues latching (thank goodness for shields!) and we also have to wake him every two hours to feed him and monitor his intake of fluids so i'm pumping right now and nursing when I can. I'm sure there's a lot more to this story, but it will have to wait til later.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!
