I've not had m/s, so to speak, but I feel nauseous in the mornings and am afraid it will hit soon. How do you deal with being sick and needing to be somewhere at a scheduled time (i.e. work, class, appointment, etc)? I canNOT get motivated to get out of bed and drive the 45 minute distance to my doctor feeling like this right now - though, of course I will since it's the first appointment that will get me a referral to an OB close to home.

I can relate, SO much! I drive 1 1/2 -2 hours each way for work.. and I do it 5 days a week!! That, plus morning sickness = nightmare!!
What I've found that helps a ton.. keep a snack in the car.. I keep a container of pretzels in my car to snack on when I'm starting to feel queasy.. also, preggie pops! They helped a lot in the beginning.. then, once my ms really took off, they weren't as helpful.. but, fingers crossed, I've been "good" for 4 days!! So, I might just be coming over that ms hump!!!
Anyway.. I feel your pain!! It's a challenge, no doubt.. but it can be done
My thoughts exactly. I've yet to puke so I just keep going about my day.
It's not an option for me, either... I guess I'm just afraid of physically getting sick while driving. I still get up each day and get my 7yo SS ready for school, on the bus, pick up the house, etc. no matter how I feel. Life has never stopped because I'm sick with m/s or flu.
We moved 45 minutes from my campus because the school and special education system was best for SS so the drive is totally worth it. I have noticed that it's better when I snack. I just bought a box of Rice Chex which sound yummy. I hadn't thought of snacking in the car! I know it's weird, but DH and I don't usually eat in our cars unless we're on road trips. I will definitely try that. Thanks!
I've had to pull over to throw up a few times in the past few weeks. I've been throwing up almost every morning, so recently I've been brushing my teeth as soon as I get up, because I know it's coming anyway, so might as well get it over with. The mornings that I barf at home, I feel much better on the commute. Sorry that's super gross.
Preggie pops also help.
Honestly, I feel best if I am driving. If my husband is, that is when I get the motion sickness. If you feel ill, try some ginger chews. Carry water with you. Carry a bag to vom in. That is how I feel now, too, but when I am driving, it's not bad at all.
Also, I became a hermit in first tri with my last pregnancy. It was annoying. I can't do that now, especially since I have a toddler running around. Plus, I feel that the more I get out, the better I feel. Once you get to your OB, maybe you can get a script for Zofran or he/she can talk to you about ways to keep your nausea at bay.
Thank you for all your input! I made it to and from the doctor OK with a ginger ale and Chex but drove in the far right lane in case I needed to pull off quickly. I've not heard of the pops.
Today, I got out of bed, readied SS for school, put him on the bus, ate, showered, brushed teeth and laid right back down because I felt sick and exhausted. I'll try getting up earlier so I don't rush to get ready and see if that helps, too.
