Tough day...needing some encouragement

Hi ladies,

My DH and I are TTC after stopping BCP's, with no period for 3 months, and I have been advised to "wait it out" by my OBGYN.  So, today, I am having a hard/frustrated with my silly body kind of day and figured that coming on here and hearing from those of you that had irregularity after stopping BCP's and are now pregnant would give me some encouragement!  Thanks ladies...and congratulations!!!

Re: Tough day...needing some encouragement

  • My massage therapist just told me about how she didn't have AF for a year after stopping her BCP.  She didn't even know she was pg because she was spotting at the time and spotted throughout most of her pregnancy.

  • Ugh - I hear you! My body had issues for a year coming off the pill. I would have 60+ day cycles, than 45 days, then my normal 32 day cycles - yea! I would think everything is back to normal than BAM another 60+ day cycle.

At 13 months I finally went in to have my blood drawn (day 21 progesterone test to confirm I was ovulating) and what do you know....turns out I was finally pregnant.

Be patient (I know this is much easier said than done). When DR's/people say it can take time for your body to regulate itself after the pill they are completely accurate. Good luck!

  • I stopped BCP at the very end of Jan.  I didn't get a "normal" period until late May. I called the dr. a few times in that period, and they said that sometimes it takes a while.

After that period in May- I didn't get another one.  I called the dr. finally in Oct and made an appointment. to go in.  She said she didn't know why, but I was not ovulating, so she scheduled some blood tests just to make sure and put me on Clomid.

Got my BFP on first month on Clomid!

It's actually really common to take a while to get your first real period after BCP.  If it doesn't happen for another month or two, I'd call to go into the dr again.  It will happen, don't worry.

  • I totally understand your frustration. I went off BCP in May, didn't get a period until September. But I got my BFP in December, so it all worked out! My doctor also told me to wait it out, and I'm glad I did, even though it was very difficult and frustrating!

  • Hi Concord 32,

I went off BCP after 10 years in October and began charting straight away.  I didn't ovulate for the first two months and my body was going haywire (nausea, constant backache everyday, spots).  I got a very strange period after 29 days and then 34 days but wouldn't have called them normal periods at all (very dark and lasted only 48 hrs).  I luckily became pregnant in the third month.  I was charting and using opk's and had my poor DH exhausted with all the nookie.  I was suprised it happened so quickly and of course elated.  Your body can just kick back into action at any stage so try to stay positive.  Also i never went to doctor about coming off BCP or TTC before hand as i guessed they would just say it would all depend on my body.  I hope your period comes soon and then you can get on track again.

    Best wishes to you xxx
