i was born at 41 weeks at 6 lbs 4 oz, 18 inches long. completely healthy! my family just has little babies!
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
My little girl was born on October 12th, at 40w4days and was 6lbs 8oz, and 19.5 inches long... she's as healthy as can be and at a month was already 8lbs 4oz! Doctor said since I'm not that big she wouldn't have expected a big baby...
Statistically it's smaller than average, but babies come in all shapes and sizes just like people do. You don't find it strange that a lot of adults are shorter than average, do you? It's really the same thing.
No, that's perfect actually. My dr. was telling me that it used to be that all normal babies were born between 6-8 lbs and anything over that was considered big. Now, with all the processed foods we consume and extra calories, sugar, etc. babies are being born larger (which he thought was really not a good thing).
Re: Is 6.5lbs small for baby born at 41 weeks?
Oh I don't think anything is wrong w/ her at all .... I guess I just assumed that the further along you are - the bigger your baby will be ....
But that is silly of me.
It probably seems small because all we ever hear about are the big ones. But it's still a healthy size! Congrats to your friend on her little peanut!
