Hi there. I have 2 years old twins whom I had a scheduled c-section with. I am now pregnant with #3 and I just met with the OB who delivered the twins. She explained (To my surprise) that they do not do VBAC's at their office or at their hospital. I really like my OB but I have to be honest, we HATED the hospital that we had the twins at (we had an awful time with the nurses and the NICU). Needless to say we are not happy about going back to that hospital but I was willing to do it to stay with that OB. Now I am torn. I am not totally set on having a VBAC but I guess I kind of wanted the option. Looking for some advice. Anyone here switch OB's to get one whose willing to do a VBAC? TIA!
Re: C-section with twins and now preg w/ #3. Vbac ?'s
Yes, I switched midwives and hospitals to have my VBAC. It seems to be a common thing to do. I was set on a VBAC, but even if I wasn't, I think I'd want to be taken care of by a provider who felt that it was an option. I always question doctors/hospitals who just have a blanket rule against it when their own organization (ACOG) has agreed that it is a safe option.
I know it is scary to think about switching everything up like that but I am so glad I did and don't regret it.
Yes. I had a c/s with DD due to PROM and failed induction at 40w0d. I wanted a VBAC with our next baby, but she just didn't seem comfortable with that. Though I really liked my OB, I ended up interviewing other providers.
When pregnant with DS, I switched providers three times. First I had switched to a supposedly "VBAC-friendly" OB, but she had just recently decided to stop doing VBACs... awesome. Then DH got a job transfer from Texas to Colorado, so I made my 16 week appt with an OB up there at a "highly recommended" hospital. Unfortunately she was the "bait and switch" type, so I transferred to a hospital midwife group at a different hospital. Both the midwives and the hospital came very highly recommended by the local ICAN group. I had a successful VBAC at 41w2d.
When DS was 2 months old, we moved back to Texas when DH took a new position back where we moved from. So, I went back to my first OB for this pregnancy. She recommended I switch to a bigger practice at a bigger hospital if I really wanted another VBAC. So, I just had my first consult with a new group today. It was great! The OB didn't bat an eye when I said I was transferring to them because I wanted a VBAC. She said, "Well you've come to the right place! We do those, and I see no issues since your first VBAC had no complications." Almost brought tears to my eyes LOL.
Sorry my reply is so long, but I just wanted to let you know that switching providers for a VBAC is very common and totally worth looking into IMO. You might check out https://ican-online.org/ to find a local chapter meeting to help you find a new provider
GL to you!!!
