In Nicholas' K2 class they have schedule "Diaper Changes/Potty breaks". They have all the kids sit on the little pottys and they either pee or poop or do nothing, but they all get a sticker for just sitting there regardless if anything comes out.
So far Nicholas has just sat there and not done anything. Now if one day his teacher said "Oh Nicholas peed on the potty the last 3 days",would you run and buy him some underwear and start potty training him? Or does that mean nothing?
Re: Okay so if Nicholas uses the little potty at school should I follow through at home?
Sam's class basically does the same thing. Sam has peed on the potty almost every day, but it seems to be totally random. I would offer him to go on the potty at home at every diaper change and just see if he starts to ask for it. The more exposure the better, but unless he seems to be driving it, I wouldn't force it. But I'm also (a) lazy that way and (b)harboring no illusions that Sam will be ready before 3. If he is, super, but I'm just not willing to start "training" until it's amply clear he is motivated and more biologically ready (i.e. can tell me that he needs to go).
I ask Sam if he wants to sit on the potty w/ every diaper change. If yes, he sits on it till he asks to get down; if not - then not. If he asks between changes, we do that too. So far he's never peed on the potty at home, but has done so around 5-6 times at school.

I say is you think he is ready go fot it at home, but only if you are willing to go all the way, full on.
In my opinion, you are either potty training, every single poop and pee, or you aren't, and the half way, sit on the potty for fun business only encourages the idea it is an optional activity you do when you feel like it.
Thanks. Right now the plan (at least in my head) is to wait until he is 3 in March and I get a break from working so I can spend the time to really focus on it.
