So my friend lives in Hawaii- actually Maui and I was asking her how she likes it there. She has been there for about a year and a half and she hates it. She works as a preschool teacher and she was telling me all about the huge fecking cat sized rats they have and cockroachs too. Then she told me that if they don't clean up right away after lunch, the mice come and steal some crumbs. She said her bosses office is infested with rats and she (my friend) went into the office one day and a rat jumped out at her. Scared the ever lovin' chit out of my friend.
So I said "Um isn't that a health code violation? Don't people say anything? Inspectors? You?"
She said "Hell yeah I've said it's disgusting" and everyone (including inspectors or whoever) say "Eh it's fine, they're not dirty rats". Kind of like "Oh we have rats and cockroaches oh well".
Um ewwww. She is counting the days til she can get out of "that dirty state" as she calls Hawaii. She is possibly moving to WA sometime in 2012.
Re: Um rats and cockroachs at preschool? (not my son's)
Seriously! All her coworkers were like "Oh please, G you are from NY" and she said "Um I've never seen a rat that size ever".
She said she will take living in Bellingham, WA with cloudy skies and rain everyday over living in Hawaii. She hates it so bad.
Are you in Maui? Or another island? She's in Lahaina.
Um ewwwwww! EEEw! EEEw! EEEw!
I admit Riley's school sometimes gets a family of mice outside. They have chickens and bunnies, who all live outside and sometimes a family of mice will make a nest under the container that keeps the food. It doesn't bother me though they are outside, under a 100 pound bin and the school does its best to keep it under control. A friend had a farm when I was a teen, mice are a part of having livestock.
I'm on Oahu for another 4 weeks. Then I'm trading bugs for the 4 seasons of Idaho.
I just remembered that I have seen a mouse/rat. It was in downtown Honolulu. But I also saw rats in downtown DC when I lived there.
I have never been there, but one would think that health standards would dictate no pests (like mice, rats, and cockroaches!)...I would quit over that. In a heartbeat. No one taking it seriously? What if she gets sick? Gross.
