We are currently car shopping for a new/er non-mini van vehicle. We have 2 kids now and are getting ready to start trying for #3 and needing something bigger that will accomodate us all.
We have a Mazda cx9 and really love it. Really comfy to drive long distance too. But I agree with the pp about not fitting a lot in the trunk with use of the third row. But we get by, even when traveling. Both of my older boys sit in the third row, and my youngest sits in the 2nd row. We got it because it was all wheel drive which was important to us, and drives like a car, and gas mileage.
We're expecting #3 this summer and will be getting a minivan this spring. I'd rather not sacrifice cargo/trunk space when we need to fit a double stroller in. Neither DH or I care about driving a minivan and its "stigma", so it makes the most sense to us.
We drive a Honda Pilot. I like it. We will probably go a little bigger with a Yukon or a preferably something nicer bur for now it is good on gas and just the right size. I don't like big vehicles and I'm anti-minivan so it works for us. We put the twins in the middle row and Harm love the 3rd row all to himself.
Mom to Harmon 1/17/08 and twins Rachel & Callum 8/28/09
Suburban here too. But I think it would be difficult having to lift an infant seat up that high to get in. We bought our Sub after everyone was a little older.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!

DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
Unfortunately we have a minivan but not by my choice (hubby LOVES it). I can say that the automatic doors and the DVD player are nice but those are the only perks in my book.
Our second car is a Pontiac Aztec that we can fit all three kiddos in but it is tight and they no longer make the car.
I would LOVE to have a Suburban or Yukon but they are so frickin expensive and are gas guzzlers so we will probably never own one since we drive 30 miles to and from work every day.
I envy those of you who have not succumbed to the minivan.
sliding doors that the kids won't bang against another car
DVD player (with earphones)
12 cup holders JUST UP FRONT. There are several in the back too.
SPACE--We are in the phase of bringing a friend along and here this doesn't end for a while...its great that I can have 2 boosters, a Marathon and Frontier and still seat two more in the back if needed : )
Love the trunk space. I can fit my double Maclaren, single Maclaren and grocies. It also fits my double bob well. My friends Suburban doesn't hold much!
I read that booster are unsafe in the third row of SUVs, something to do with the no trunk space.
butt warmers
$$--I paid 14k for my used minivan (Kelly Blue book was 18K) and it only had one owner/no wrecks (of course until I got it)
The way we have it set up--no one can touch each other- THANK GOD!
I know you don't want a minivan but there is my experience. The kids say their fav is the DVD.
We have a Honda odyssey. Love it, but it's a minivan. Seriously don't understand minivan hate. They make life so much easier! We also have a Honda pilot that we can put all three carseats across, but it isn't as convenient as the van.
ETA: we can fit all three carseats across the second row in the pilot so no need for the third row so we still have lots of cargo space. One in a five point booster seat (go hybrid), one in forward convertible seat (alpha omega), and one in rear facing infant seat (Graco snug ride).
Mama to Lucy (7/06), Lexi (5/09), and Max (11/11)

Re: Mom of 3 kiddos
Suburban and we LOVE it
We pretty much looked at everything that wasn't a mini-van and chose the Suburban in the end.
Be careful because there are several cars that have 3 rows, but when in use, you have very little cargo space (i.e. Acadia, Enclave, etc).
GL!
