Who has a crib/changer combo? Advice please!

I'm looking at this one right now: https://www.target.com/p/Europa-Baby-Kingston-Crib-and-Changer-Combo-Classic-White/-/A-13295112

I'm still looking around though.. I really like the combo style because I feel like it would be a huge space saver for us ( Our baby room is shaped funky).

Anyways, question:  what are the pros/cons of a combo? Is it better to just get a crib and separate drawer space/changer? Why or why not?  TIA!

Re: Who has a crib/changer combo? Advice please!

  • My co-worker, who has 3 little boys told me not to get a combo changer/crib as baby's can crawl out of the crib on to the changer and fall.  She advised me not to get one, as we were looking at one as well to save space. I am thinking instead to get a low dresser and put the changing pad on top of the dresser.

    I've heard this as well.

  • I've always read about babies crawling out and over too. Some babies will crawl out of their crib no matter what, but I'd imagine a fall from atop the changer could be worse than sliding/falling down the side.

  • Wow ladies.. Good point didn't even think of that. I have a feeling she will be a climber..

Glad I asked. I want to get lots of opinions & advice before I buy.

  • Also, the crib/changer combo's have a changing area that is completely closed in with wood/railing.  The space is very small and baby will outgrow it very quickly as it is only the size of a bassinet.              https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3908929

I have a dresser from DD that has a removeable backboard and drawer on top (so it converts to a plain dresser) that a changing pad bolts to.  I was able to use this changing area until she was out of diapers (at 27 months) despite how tall/long she was.

  • I had a combo, and it worked great for us.  We put the whole thing in our bedroom for the first month, and it was great having everything right there.  However, baby outgrew the changing table at about 5 months, so we switched to using a pad ontop of a dresser.  I never had issues with climbing, but DD is only 17 months old.

we bought a dresser that doubles as a changing table. when you dont need the changing pad just remove and you have a normal dresser.

personally it has worked great and now DD at 2 gets changed on the floor-shes too long for the table and after I did IVF and had lifting restrictions for a time she refused to go back up so it works actually. so glad we can still use the dresser for new baby and future older child.

I personally didnt like the crib/changing table options too limiting

I am a FTM, and this is what I did.

  • Had the combo with DD -- she climbed like a little monkey to hoist herself up on that changing table. It seemed like a great idea for the earlier months because her room was teeny. But, we moved and her room was very big and she just wanted to get out and go. She ended up in the "toddler" bed at 12 months because she A. hated the crib and B. just kept climbing to get on to the changing table. This time around, we are NOT getting the combo.
