If you leave house super early with LO for daycare/sitter...

Do you give them breakfast or milk at home, or do you just put them in car and go?  As of right now I wake my son up half hour before we leave (around 6:20 am)  I bring him downstairs and let him watch Elmo/Sesame Street while drinking his milk and playing with me while I attempt to get our bags packed, etc...  I pack him in car and we make the 25 minute ride to my MILs and she feeds him breakfast shortly after he arrives.  Wondering what others do that have to leave house ridiculously early.

Re: If you leave house super early with LO for daycare/sitter...

  • We leave at 6:30 and I just pick him up out of his crib, change his diaper and put on his coat and off we go.  He falls back asleep at the sitter and then they feed him breakfast when he wakes up.  He wakes up between 7:30 and 8 at our house so I'm assuming it's the same for them.

  • She gets up between 5:30-6. She gets a milk sippy. We get to DC around 7:15 and they give her breakfast there.

  • I give Liam a sippy of milk and a banana while he watches Sprout or PBS Kids in his diaper.  Then I wipe him down, get him dressed and we head out the door at around 7:00.  Daycare has breakfast at around 7:30 or 7:45.

  • DS wakes up around 615, so I just change his diaper, put his clothes on, and off we go. DC usually offers him breakfast at abot 0800. I don't usually get to DC until about 0730.

  • DS wakes around 6:30 and gets milk at home. I quickly change him and we try and get out the door by 6:50-7am. He eats breakfast at daycare but will eat a fruit puree pouch while in the car occasionally.

  • We're up around 5:15 and usually L will wake up when he hears us get up.  I nurse him when he wakes up, then try to get him to play while I get lunch packed and bags ready.  When I'm eating breakfast I put him in his high chair with some cheerios and he'll eat maybe 10-20 cheerios max.  I get him changed after that.  Then he'll usually want to nurse again before we leave the house at 6:30.  Daycare feed him 'snack' at 9:30, so I always try to get him to eat something before we leave the house, it seems like it would be a long 4 hours without food in the morning, especially since he gets to daycare at 7:30 and is playing hard for those 2 hours until snack.

So to answer your question, yes, he eats, but not much other than BM.

  • I get DS up @ 6:45 change his diaper and then we leave for DC around 6:50. We get there at 7:05 and he gets a sippy with milk while the other kids arrive then they eat breakfast by 8:00. Before he came off of his bottle about 1.5 months ago he would wake up and eat his milk bottle when I got up at 6:10 and then fall back asleep till we left. Since switching to a sippy he has given up his milk when he first wakes up. I have tried offering it several times and he will only take a few sips out of it on the way to DC so I just stopped offering it and he's fine with it. HTH

  • We leave around 6:30. I get DD up and dressed and out the door as quickly as possible. Unless she asks for it I don't even give her milk. Daycare serves breakfast and she likes to eat there. Plus if I got her up at 6 to eat she'd be starving by their 11 lunch time.

  • We leave the house at 6:30/6:45 AM. I get DD up, dressed and I give her a sippy of milk while I fix her hair and she typically is still drinking her milk when I load her into the car. Sometimes (if she asks) she'll have a banana, dry cereal or *gasp* a poptart on the way to school, but that only happens a couple times a week. She gets fed breakfast at daycare (a center) at 8 AM and she likes eating with her friends. I don't think she's hungry, because on the weekends, she'll drink her sippy of milk and not really ask for breakfast until 1-2 hours after her milk.

  • She has her choice of a banana, clementine or grapes while I get our bags packed.  Daycare is about 5 minutes up the road and she has real breakfast there.

  • Not sure what counts as "super early" :), but we are out the door by seven.  I get up and get ready about 5:45, wake LO up and get him dressed.  Then I nurse him and then I give him some yogurt or finger food breakfast while I eat.  Then we are off and running to daycare.  I don't agree with the daycare menu though (Cocoa Puffs for breakfast!!), so I feed him before I leave to avoid having to pack another meal.

  • We leave at 6:30 and about 50% of the time I have to wake DD up...so I wake her, change her diaper and let her have a sippy of milk for the couple minutes it takes me to start and load the car.  Then I throw her coat on her, toss her in the car, drive the 20 minutes to take DH to work and get to my mom's and when we get there DD usually eats at that point.

The other 50% of the time, she wakes up a little earlier.  When that happens, I give her some milk and she plays and watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I get ready.  She still eats at my mom's

  • I have to be out of the house by 6:15 to make it to work on time.  Usually I will wake up and get myself ready, pack her breakfast, and then right before I leave, I will wake her up to dress her and get out the door.  When we get to daycare, she has breakfast.
