Success after IF

I suppose it was only a matter of time

My cat scratched my baby. Just a tiny scratch, but DH said she cried for a VERY long time. He left the room for a just a moment this morning, but it was long enough for our now very mobile almost 8 month old baby to grab the cat and for the cat to hiss and scratch her on her hand.

I guess we will just have to be more cautious now. This cat seems to genuinely care for the baby and hangs out with her frequently, but I don't think that the cat was really ready for the sudden motor skill development that's been going on.

Re: I suppose it was only a matter of time

  • Oh that happened to Riley a time or two at that age. A few times he rolled over and grabed a tail and she hissed and then I enterviened just in time to keep her from using her claws. It sucks to have it happen but don't feel to bad, soon she will learn to run and hide under the bed where he can't get her.

  • Ouch! She was probably more scared by the cat's reaction then anything else. Though I'm sure the scratch was no fun either. Hopefully they learn to peacefully coexist :)

  • This happened to ds once. He wanted to "play" w/ the kitty and got right in her face. The kitty on the other hand didn't want to "play" w/ ds. She scratched him right above the lip and he now has a teeny tiny scar. The funny part about getting scratched? It didn't stop him from trying to "play" w/ her shortly after!

  • that sucks.  My dogs have never been aggressive at all with DS, but I do worry this could happen.  It has been so easy to keep them more apart as DS was a little baby but with him crawling now it will be much harder!
