Push present

Another gift post.  I just figured I would share since I find it pretty funny.  DH didn't do a push present for when dd was born.  Honestly, the only reason I had even heard of such a thing was thru the bump, and I just figured it was a bump-world thing and never mentioned it to him or anything.  Well, my mom works on the L&D floor of the hospital and a few months back was telling DH about how a lot of husbands get their wives a push present.  I didn't really care either way, so whatever.

He came home last weekend all proud of himself and excited about the push present he got me.

It's a gun.

I told him it was a good thing he didn't give it to me while I was in labor bc I would have gotten my first shot off.

Ummm, no.  Not at all.  In fact I would be happy to not have any guns in the house.  But we do....which is why I was ok with us getting a gun safe for Christmas.  We had a small one before for his hand gun, and he separated the bullets or whatever for the long guns.  But I am happy now that everything is locked away.

He does have some good points about it.  He says that since there are guns in the house, that I should know how to shoot as well.  Which I agree.  And he sounded all excited about going to a range together - whoo hoo date night huh?  It is a gun that he specifically got with me in mind - it doesn't have any kick or something like that.  But ultimately, I think it was also a way for him to get another gun.

  • Hmm...I'm trying to decide if this is better or worse than my first mothers day present - which was a case of beer.
  • I never heard about this until a friend of mine got a Dyson handvac as a push present..??  DH got me flowers... :) A gun..hmm...interesting

Nope.  It's not a pistol.  It's called a Ruger 22 - I tried google imaging it, but they all look different than what I remember it looking.  I don't even remember the combo to the safe to open it and take a pic, haha.  But it is in his name anyway since he bought it and they did the background check on him.

  • I think you should get him a g/c for a mani/pedi for Father's Day. Or a pair of diamond studs :)

  • Awesome! I would love to go shooting with you, but I need a gun! I have my permit, just have to bite bullet (hehe) and buy a pistol.

I agree that you need to know how to shoot what is in your home. Gun safety is very important, for kids too. I was shooting guns by the time I was 5. I was taught to respect, not fear a weapon.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, too.  DH has a shotgun for hunting, locked up, ammo in another safe, etc.  I will probably take a gun safety course at some point but while he had the gun out for hunting he showed me the basics of knowing if it is loaded or not, how to aim and shoot.  I'm still not a fan of guns but if they're going to be in our house, we're all going to know how to shoot them and respect them, including the girls.
