Hello! I posted this on the IF board but it was suggested that I post it here.
Thanks!
Hello ladies! First off I would like to apologize for my "siggy". I need to figure out how to remove the picture.
I am here in support of my sister. She recently found out that her FSH is 20 and her AMH is only .2 She is only 32 years old and she had no indication that this diagnosis was coming! In fact, the nurse on the phone said she would have to use DE to achieve pregnancy. Of course she was devastated.
Right now she is in a 3 month waiting period because her RE has her trying DHEA as well as acupuncture... In March they are going to retest her levels.
My sister does not like message boards... but I want to do what I can to help bring her hope.
Have any of you seen success with numbers like these?
Have any of you tried DHEA or acupuncture and did they make a difference?
Thank you soo much and Happy New Year!!!
Re: FSH 20 AMH .2 Any Hope?
When my FSH was 13, I did acupunture for 6 months before I got pregnant with my DS1 on my second IUI. I think it helped. If nothing else, it relaxed me!
When my FSH was 23 (!), I didn't do acupuncture and got pregnant with both IVFs (first one was a MC, second one is DS2). I would have liked to do acupuncture but just didn't have the time with DS1 in the picture.
Tell your sister not to lose hope.. high FSH doesn't necessarily mean donor eggs. Find an FSH friendly RE.. wish her good luck!

My FSH is oddly fine but my AMH was lower than hers and my AFC was frighteningly low. However, I was able to get pg with acupuncture and a very positive-minded RE. (More accurately, I did more acupuncture leading up to my pg with DD1; my AFC became an issue when trying to get pg with DD2 but admittedly I didn't do quite as much acupuncture leading up to that pg. I was 32 when I got pg with DD1 and 35 when I got pg with DD2). Her age will likely be a big plus, even with poor numbers.
Hopefully she can find an RE who can help reassure her! That nurse should be shot; DE is a *wonderful* thing but far from necessary for her yet. I wish her the best!

I've never had my AMH tested and my FSH was always normal, but like a pp, my antral follicle count dropped to almost nothing about 6 months into infertility treatment and I was counseled that IVF was unlikely to work and an egg donor might be our only hope. We had done 6 IUIs at the point with no success. We had no money or coverage for IVF. I was 31.
We ended up stopping treatment and focusing on health. I lost some weight, DH and I did a meditation class together, I took better care of my health. And we got pregnant (and miscarried and got pregnant again). DS was conceived without treatment three years after we started trying (and a year after our last treatment).
I hope she finds a great doctor to help her.
Personally, I don't put a lot of stock in numbers. I went to two phenomenal clinics and never had my AMH tested. As for my FSH, well, it was pretty awesome. At it's best, it was 3.5. The highest it ever went was 10.3, but, then it came right back down.
And, with a great FSH, I attempted 7 IVF's with my eggs, with no success. I eventually used DE to have my beautiful daughter!
I wish your sister the best of luck and just tell her that numbers don't always tell the full story!!
