My boys fell down the stairs

My heart stopped beating for a while, but luckily nobody got hurt. We are still visiting family. My FIL has wooden stairs and can be slippery if you wear socks. DH's reflex worked well I guess, so when he started falling he made sure Ian doesn't get hurt. So DH went with on his back holding DS tightly. DS ended up on DH's belly. Of course all that took a moment. I only heard the rumbling sound and you can only imagine how much I freaked out.

DH also did not get hurt, but today he has a rough day. Emotionally.  And I don't know how to help him.  It is hard for me being around him like that but I will just let him be and I know he will be fine by tomorrow. That was not  the way I wanted to start the new year, but I hope the rest of it will be all good and happy. I am so thankful that the accident did not result in something more serious.

Stay safe peeps and have a Happy New Year!

Re: My boys fell down the stairs

  • Man, I can't count how many parents I know have done the same thing.  Heck, I nearly did it myself on carpeted steps.  And my cousin's wife fell onto her baby son's leg and he had a fracture and was in a cast for several weeks.  It's one of those things that I think EVERYBODY either does or nearly does.

Don't let DH beat himself up over it.

  • That is so scary.  I worry about doing that myself or seeing DD fall down the stairs.  I fell down the stairs twice as a child and didn't get hurt.

  • Glad to hear your boys are ok.  I can imagine how scary that moment must have been.  I have slid down carpeted stairs a few times so I know how easily it can happen.

  • Give them hugs, it's happened lots here, and so far no breaks or concussions. I fell with T down our steps (2nd floor, straight steps, carpetted) when I was 36 weeks.....totally bruised, but fine. I side eyed those stairs for months.
  • I am glad too that your boys are okay! I was carrying DS in the baby carrier (facing out) and I slipped on the floor at the market. Luckily I pulled myself down v.s falling forward face down. DS would have been hurt really bad. I've been completely sore for two days, just achy from the fall. A couple of bruised knees that will heal. Turns out I slipped on something oily that someone spilled.

  • Glad your boys (big and small) are ok.  We have a long staircase and I always worry about stumbling down it, especially when I'm carrying DS.

  • So glad they're okay! Charlie took a tumble here and it was very scary and there were a lot of tears, but he was okay.

  • So glad everyone is okay!

I fell down our carpeted stairs last fall when I was 20 wks pregnant and carrying my 1yr old.  I totally tumbled with my DD pulled to my chest, split my head open when I hit the wood floor at the bottom and was quite sore for a few days, but thankfully both of my babies were okay.  I can't tell you how many times I've thought about how I would never have forgiven myself if something happen to either of my LOs.

    Be safe everyone!

  • Ugh, how scary!  I have slipped, but not fallen, a few times, holding DS and it is a frightening thing.
