Hospital bag list?

Anyone have one they'd like to share? Dh is started to freak out a bit that I haven't got one packed yet but I wear most of my mat clothes that still fit on a regular basis so its challenging... but I should have some things thrown together just in case... TIA!

Re: Hospital bag list?

  • There was a post about this late last night on 3rd tri, I think....I copied and pasted some of the responses as I still need to pack mine!

Another thing that I already did was create a list and leave it by the bag, so if you do end up in a rush, you can refer to the list and make sure to grab everything on it.

  • As far as clothes go, you really only need something to wear home (you and baby).  I personally wanted nothing to do with maternity clothes the second I was no longer pregnant with LO 1, so I used tshirt/sweats.  But yes, mat clothes would have fit.

In addition to all of the standard stuff, I recommend chap-stick and flip-flops for labor.  I was able to walk around at the hospital at first, and putting on shoes would not have been fun.

  • Thanks! Yeah I want to have a printed list so I can have it there so Dh can help me get it together if we're looking pinched for time. I feel like its a minor thing but I don't want to forget something important like my leave paperwork or the camera! lol!

  • This is the checklist I used:

You won't need everything on it, but it's a good starting point.

  • Don't feel bad, I just got mine packed this past weekend. I also think having a list by the bag is a good idea..especially since you still need to use some of the clothes you're going to pack. My list has items that I need to keep using until it's time to go so I don't want them packed away but I definitely don't want to forget them. (i.e. phone chargers, laptop, makeup that i doubt i'll care about when the time comes lol).

And something you may consider: I packed some cheapo toothbrushes and travel size toothpaste so A) we don't forget ours at home if we're in a rush and B) we don't forget our normal/good ones at the hospital.

One thing I keep hearing people say they're glad they brought/wish they hadn't forgotten: their boppy. Which I still haven't purchased :/

  • I'm being discharged tomorrow from the hospital (got here about 2 pm yesterday, had my LO last night). I packed A LOT and I'll tell you what I've actually used: (sorry for lack of paragraphs, bumping from my phone!). For labor/delivery: hair scrunchie, non-skid socks, baby book for footprints, laptop, phone charger, lotion (the epidural made me verryy itchy!), gum, chapstick. For recovery: non skid socks, laptop, clothes/PJ's for SO, toothbrush/toothpaste, snacks, camera (also for delivery). They haven't let me shower yet, and They wont let me change out of my hospital gown, so the bathroom stuff (shampoo, cond., etc), extra pjs and clothes I packed for myself have been useless. I haven't used my robe (they put another hospital gown on backwards when I walked the halls and stuff). Also I pre-registered so they wont need any of my insurance info or anything like that. So I haven't needed much! I definitely over packed.

Thanks for sharing this! I've wondered about the need for a robe... I may still bring it but just leave it in the trunk of the car!
