For those of us who aren't BFing for whatever reason (can't, won't, etc) does the hospital typically provide formula for the baby? It makes sense that they would provide formula, but I don't want to assume they will.
Yes, they do. I don't know what kind... I just remember with DS when I was having trouble with BFing, they would supplement with formula for me and I never even thought about it.
I know ours did but if there is a brand you know you want to use you might want to bring it. One hospital used one brand the other used another leading brand. I just used what they used at the hospital, I think it was Enfamil. It was the pre mixed too which I LOVED. I used it until she was about 9 months then went to powder.
Thanks. I was reading another board and they were talking about what to pack to go to the hospital. Most women were talking about BF'ing supplies and it got me thinking. I assumed they would provide formula during the hospital stay, but assuming doesn't always work out for me. I could just see us showing up with nothing to feed our baby.
Re: Possibly a really dumb question from a FTM...
Yes. Don't buy ANY formula until after you have the baby either.
They will use the basic kind, but if your baby has problems with it, then they can try different kinds.
They will also send you home with little disposable bottles and nipples.
And diapers that are left over from the pack they open for your baby.
