Anyone else's baby sleep in odd increments?

My 2week old baby girl doesn't really have any schedule/routine. She sleeps in anywhere from 1-4 increments but last nitght she slept a 5-6 hour stretch. I am bf'ing so I woke her up but she barely ate and went right back to sleep!!!

I am all for "never wake a sleeping baby" but I don't want my baby starving either.

What are you all doing/experienced?

  • Our LO sleeps pretty erratically too, but thankfully saves the longer stretches for night. Last night he slept from 9pm to 4am! But then slept from 4:30am to 6:30am and was up again.... he tends to take 2 hour naps during the day and do longer (5-6 hours on average) at night.

  • My LO's sleep is all over the place as well.  At some point during the day he goes for 4-5 hours where he is wide awake.  This awake period can be any time, and has on more than one occasion occurred between 10 pm and 2 am.  Last night it was about 5 pm to 9 pm, which was much more manageable.  The rest of the time he sleeps unless he is eating and will not stay awake for anything!  He usually sleeps for 2 - 3 hours at a time, wakes up to eat and be changed, and then goes back to sleep.

True..good point! As a FTM, common sense seems to be thrown out the window sometimes and panic strikes:) BTW, pretty name for a pretty baby girl! Leila is my DD's 1st name as well:)

This exactly. DD will often sleep for 4-5 hours at a time- she'll wake herself up when she wants to eat.

during the day they are all over the place with eating and sleeping, but at night they seem to be on a pretty regular 3 hour intervals

  • Some times she is wide awake for 6 hours feeding constantly then will crash for six hours straight. Or she will be up every two hours. Everyday is different and definitely no routine even at four weeks!
