Army folks

I know the Army Times isn't always accurate but since we know most of these things are in the works anyway, it's an interesting read.

Re: Army folks

  • Although I hope they stick to the 9 month deployment thing. We have done an 18 month and two 1 year deployments. 9 months would be cake. But I am assuming that would mean no R&R? But knowing our luck he would be in the "high demand" and still go for a year.

I've heard both. DH did a 9 month deployment and did not get R&R but they did take leave for Exodus before they left. I'm guessing it would depend on their mission and what not. That should be something they address when writing the policy.

  • From what I understand, the 9 month deployment thing will apply to deployments to combat zones.  DH's unit just got back from Afghanistan this past summer, and they are starting to train for their next deployment to a location that I'm not sure if I can say or not (probably, but just to be safe I won't).  It's not a "combat zone" anymore, and right now they're saying it will be anywhere from 15 months to 2 years.  And there will be no extra pay beyond Family Separation pay either, because it's not a combat zone.  I'm sure that can change, and maybe they will fall into the 9 month limit, but it's not looking like it at the moment.  At the moment, let's just say that I am EXTREMELY happy he's getting out before they'll be going.

I'm glad you said this because you're right. People will probably think that 9 months is set in stone. When I deployed, 12 months was set in stone yet we did 15. So I'm thinking this is more of a "guideline" than a concrete regulation. I'd be suprised if they wrote it as a reg.

I was pleased when I previously read about 9 month tours. Well, DH will be part of a headquarters when he deploys next. Bah. Guess it doesn't matter as his MOS is one that is tapped for 12 month deployments anyway. . Though, I guess I shouldn't complain, at least he'll be earning the financial benefits of a deployment, unlike Leslie's DH's unit.

  • shiiit. eod still deploys for a year so its no change for me unless I PCS and I dont see that happening. at all.
If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • dead hang pull ups. L.O.L. I'm pretty strong and I can do one dead hang *chin* up. The only event worth doing on the old PT test is push ups. and they took them out? stupid.
