Only 1 boob hurting WTH??

So I haven't nursed or pumped in 2 days. My right boob is mostly soft and isn't intoo much pain. It is hard in some places, but not too engorged and the pain is minor, but the left boob feels like it is filled with rocks. It is engorged and hurts much worse, it is also heavier and appears to be much fuller. UGH, i don't want to go out to the store since L is sleeping, but I need some cabbage leaves or something. I can't wait until they empty out, I want nothing more than to just pump, but I don't want tostart this process over again.

Re: Only 1 boob hurting WTH??

  • Honestly I think it would be totally okay for you to pump once or twice a day. When Cameron came home I dropped down to only 3 pumps a day (my norm was 6) and in less than a week my supply completely tanked. My breasts never felt full anymore it just took a couple days. I had to start pumping 6 times again to get my supply back up. I would not be able to do it cold turkey so kudos to you if you do!

ETA: My right boob is SUPER lazy and it pisses me off. My left boob is always like 4 times as engorged if I go for a long period without pumping.

that's how mine are.  Right boob islazy left boob is like a freaking milk machine. I want to pump, but I don't want to have to go back through this same stage again. So frustrating. If it doesn't get better by the end of the day, I will probably at least empty the one that is super full.

  • My boobs keep switching between which one is a milk machine. One gets super sore and full one day and the next it's the other. Super annoying.

  • Are you trying to dry up? If so, cold turkey is the best way to go. I had chronic mastitis in my left boob, and so it hurt before I decided to dry up. I quit pumping/bfing one day, and it took about 2 days for the mastitis boob to stop hurting, but then the other one started hurting for 2 days. Overall, it was only 4 days of pain. I took Sudafed to dry up, and Motrin for pain. Ice packs are also your friend. Stay away from warm showers or nipple stimulation.

  • Could you pump just for a few minutes to take the edge off?  I know when I quit with DD1, I pumped once because I was in so much pain just for a few minutes.

Yup, drying up here. I hadn't even thought about taking motrin or sudafed, I am off to take both of them right now.

The pain honestly isn't that bad. It was worse when I was actually nursing so I'll just suck it up. Hopefully it'll be over soon.

THIS! I pumped once or twice a day for just a minute or 2, and it helped a TON!

How many days did it take you to dry up like that?

  • When I was pumping only the left side of my left boob ever hurt. It would relive itself when I did pump, but I always thought it was weird that I only ever felt pain in one particular spot.

I think pumping 1x a day won't increase your supply so I would go ahead and do it!
