s/o tooth brushing: how to teach them to spit?

We've got the training toothpaste and have been working with spitting rather than swallowing for a loooong time. When we tell her to spit, she swallows first and then blows a raspberry. We've brushed our teeth with her, shown her how we spit, etc. etc. etc.

So how did you teach your LO to spit while brushing their teeth?

Dear Bump: You suck.

  • swim lessons. they make rainbows (to practice spitting water out while swimming) and we just had him make rainbows at home and started to call it spit instead of rainbow.

you can practice in the tub maybe?

  • Ditto Fjaril. The only downside is that he sometimes tries to do it at the table with his drinks :/

Brilliant. The only downside is that DH loses his mind when DD tries to drink the tub water. Looks like something I'll have to work on whilst DH is gone on business. ;-)

I'd get a special cup. This special cup is the only cup you are allowed to spit after drinking from. In the tub you can practice and you can store the toothbrush in it too :)

No tub water, and no spitting at the table :)
