DS recently transitioned to a "big boy" bed. Some nights have been okay, but some, like last night, have been really difficult. DS has always been good at falling asleep on his own, but now he wants me to stay in the room with him and sit in the chair beside his bed until he falls asleep. He literally whined and cried "mama mama mama come back" for almost two hours last night before finally falling asleep.
We've stuck with the same bedtime routine as before...bath, pajamas, brushing teeth, three books, hugs and kisses, then lights out. We talk in advance about what's going to happen when reading time is over. I am just at a loss as to how to deal with this recent behavior. He doesn't have a specific comfort object...there are a couple of stuffed animals he sometimes sleeps with, but he's not super attached to them. Should I try to get him to sleep with one as a source of comfort?
Any thoughts?
Re: Sleep advice
Try the "sleep lady shuffle," sit by his bed, the next night move a foot away, the next night a little further away, slowing moving towards the door, then you sit outside the door, eventually (in theory) he'll get used to you being outside the door and not seeing you.
