AW: Dress me (pip) ETA another option for Kate

Last one.  We're having pictures taken in January and I want to get some input on our wardrobe.  I'm planning on wearing this:

Now, I'm working on losing weight, but I still have a loooooong way to go.  (Read: I'm a fatass.)  Still, this dress actually looks pretty cute on.  I might be able to change the sash out for a red one, but maybe that's too much?  Debating red or black shoes (see poll below)

The plan (I think) is for Kate to wear this, minus the hat and gloves obviously.  I can't find a pic of it online, but here she is wearing it.  The skirt has little penguins embroidered on it.  :)  She has black tights if it's cold and silver glittery shoes.

Too matchy matchy?  I'm open to suggestions.

ETA another option for Kate although it seems a bit springy.

I was going to put DH in some jeans and a black sweater.

    I LOVE that dress! I don't think it sounds too matchy and I think you should def. go with red shoes.

    I say yes to red shoes, no to red sash (and big no to both together) and I like kates red outfit better. I think the yellow and red pops if she wears the second outfit will be odd. However, if you end up with black shoes, that yellow could be cute. And not to throw you off, but I'd also love that dress with a different color shoes(like turquoise!), I do like black with red but I'm a little bored with it lately.

    I love that dress!!! If it were me, I would pick something dressier for Kate. Not over the top dressy but something a little different than that. I think, especially with some cute red pumps, that your outfit has a different feel to it than hers. Does that make sense?

    I personally prefer shirts that don't have things on them(logos, characters, etc) because I think it can distract from the picture. I think a skirt like this with some leggings would be cute

    If you went with the denim skirt then I would go for a slightly dressier top like this

    Ditto all of this.  But I'll be honest and admit that I feel like the dress is seasonally inappropriate.  Especially if Kate is going to be wearing a long-sleeved shirt with penguins on it.  Maybe you could add a cardigan or something so that it feels a bit more wintery?

    Hmm...  Good point.  Let me poke around in our closets and maybe I'll put up another poll tomorrow.

    I love the dress. I also think a cream sweater and cream shoes could be super cute.
