Q for Homebirth/Birthing Center Moms

This question has been in the back of my mind for a while, but what are you planning to wear while in labor/giving birth? I have been told to wear something comfy, but I'm not sure if I should buy something specifically to wear because it may get messy. Any thoughts?

  • I have this hideous stretchy nightgown that falls about mid-thigh that my mom gave me when I was pregnant with my son. I plan on wearing that and a sports bra. I won't worry about tossing it at all after the birth.

  • I wore a long shirt that came down to mid-thighs whenever I was not in the water and was pretty much naked the rest of the time.  This time around (last baby was summer baby) I might just rock one of my flannel nightgowns (which are hardly attractive, but my go to night clothing right now).

  • I'll probably wear something like a cheap nightgown or an over-sized t shirt. When I'm in the water I'll probably be naked. I'll also bring my bathrobe, which is very comfy, but honestly, hideously ugly. I will not be sad if it needs to be replaced. It's leopard print. Cool

  • The advantage of being at home for labor and deliver is that I don't have to think about this kind of thing. Which is fatnastic because my brain is totally fried. I will wear whatever I have the mood for until it all comes off. Most likely a short nightgown or one of DH's t-shirts.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • I bought a sarong to wear while laboring. It cost $15, so I'll just replace it should it get ruined. I wanted to feel pretty. Smile
