Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sleeping Issues...Please help

First of all, I have only posted a few times here and mainly a lurker.  I would appreciate any feedback anyone could give to me.

My daughter is 9 months old and used to be a great sleeper.  We would simply put her in her crib and she would go to sleep on her own for naps and at night.  She was like this from probably 2 months old until 8 months old.

For about the last month she has been horrible at taking naps.It takes me forever to get her down and she will usually only nap about 30 minutes compared to her 1 -2 hour naps before.

Now, in the last week this problem has also been happening at night.  Even when the naps were the problem she would still go down easy at night.  Now, is the same thing happening at night.  However, when she does get to sleep she stays asleep all night.

I just have no idea what changed.  I'm guessing it's just a phase.  Has anyone else had these issues?

  • I have heard of a sleep regression sometime between 9-11 months. My son was never a good sleeper so it's difficult to judge whether he truly went through a sleep regression, but it did seem to be even worse around 10 months (up every 1-2 hours).

Is it possible she is teething? Does she tug at her ears at all or is she prone to ear infections? My son has had a few and never showed any of the supposed symptoms (fever, cough, etc).

Hope this phase passes soon and you get back to better sleep!!

  • DD went through this around 8 months and is just now coming out of it.  I think her new teeth also had something to do with it.

Honestly we just did whatever we could- wed keep h active during the day and that would help some- but mainly we just kept to our routine and stuck it out.

This. I had a great sleeper until the first tooth, then I think we hit the sleep regression, and we have also battled many a cold, ear infection, etc. in there too. I'm hoping as with everything, it is just a phase.

  • We just went through this and had to finally re-sleep train. It sucked for about a week and now my life is so much better! As long as LO is not in pain (teething, etc) that might work. I don't know how you feel about Feber, not everyone agrees. My H is a pedi and a firm believer an luckily it's worked with both our kids.

  • Same thing is going on here.  We took her to the pedi yesterday to rule out an ear infection, etc. and she is fine physically.  Pedi suggested she is going through separation anxiety.  There's also a lot of developmental milestones at this age that can make them restless.  I think we're going to do sleep training again this weekend.
