Hey all:)
I'm purely curious about the science.
Our known donor has 3 brothers, no sisters...so we joked before we started trying that we were sure to have a boy. (Not that we cared boy or girl AT ALL...just so thrilled to be makin a baby!).
We, indeed, ARE having a boy...and I'm curious how genetic biological sex is. Does the strength of boy sperm vs. girl sperm carry down through the generations?
I don't know how true any of this is--for those that went through sperm bank, is donor sibling biological sex on the donor proflile? Perhaps that's one way to tell if there is any science to this...
Just curious!
Re: biological sex and sperm/genetics
This stuff is so interesting to think about, and there is so much we don't know yet. I'm not a biologist/geneticist/scientist and my science reading is purely recreational, but I don't think it matters. With as many families as humans have created over time, there are bound to be tons of coincidences like that. In Jen's family, all families had either all boys or all girls in her generation (she only has sisters, has a set of female cousins, two sets of male cousins, etc). Everyone thought the same thing would happen with their kids, but so far her sister and all of her cousins who have had more than one kid have had a mixed set.
I can't remember if we found out the siblings of our donor, but we're having B/G twins so I guess it doesn't matter for us
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD

Ha, this made me go check our donor profile (1 bro, 1 sis, but since I'm not pregnant this has no bearing on anything right now. It just made me curious).
What about the whole frozen sperm + IUI = more boys than girls thing? Is that valid? If so, I would think it might skew the results of this little survey...
I think about this stuff all the time because we have a girl name picked out that we are both very happy with but we can agree on NOTHING for boy names. It would just be so much easier to have a girl...

So crazy I was thinking of this subject too.. but in part thinking along the lines of IVF and gender selection possibly another thread.
