Success after IF

Those who succeeded after multiple losses....

Hi Ladies,  I used to be more of a regular on TTTC and infertility boards but moved on to the adoption board when we decided to move forward with the adoption process.  We now have a beautiful baby girl who just turned one in October.  We were so fortunate to have been able to be a big part of the BM pregnancy and I was her labor coach and cut the umbilical cord and the first to hold our baby which was a wonderful experience.  My DH and I have debated whether we would even try again with our last two frozen embies because we had such a wonderful experience with adoption and love our daughter as if she came from us, but recently we had to quickly make a decision as I've come into some issues that may cause it to become even more difficult for me to become pg so we decided to move forward.  We met with our RE and it looks like our FET may be end of February/beginning of March.  I've been lurking over here the last couple of weeks trying to muster up some hope that this could work this time. I've noticed on some siggy's that there were some ladies who also went though several m/c but ended up being able to become pg.  My RE is going to have me take Progesterone IM and Crinone suppositories this time around and because I've tested positive twice for a blood disorder decided to have me take Heparin as well.  My DH and I have had every test possible and nothing else has shown a cause.  They did genetics testing on our last little one lost but everything came back normal.  I was just wondering if there was anything you did differently during your cycle that was successful?? It's been awhile since our last cycle but I remember I ate pineapple core the day of and three days following transfer and did nothing but rest.  I had tried acupuncture but it wasn't for me.  I thought that I would go for weekly massages the few weeks before.  Thank you for any support you may offer!
DX: Severe MFI (very low motility) in 2006. 2 IVF's and 1 FET ended in 3 losses. Adopted our baby girl born 10/2/10. FET March 2012= c/p. Officially done with fertIlity treatments. Plan to start adoption process again 2014/2015.

  • I suffered 4 losses and became pg on my own recently (hopefully a take home baby). I passed all the genetic testing and was DX as unexplained. For this pg I am taking crinone and baby aspirin just as a precaution. Our cases are not really the same but I wish you all the best! Congrats on take the next step. The massages sound like an excellent idea!

  • I had 2 losses before having DS, but we did not do anything different for our successful cycle. For unrelated reasons I had lap surgery before our successful IVF when my RE cleaned out some mild endo, but the RE said it wasn't the cause of my m/cs. I have always wondered if that was it though. Nobody was ever able to tell us why we lost two babies. Wishing you the very best of luck with your FET!!!

  • After my 2nd loss I was diagnosed with MTHFR and Factor V.  Later found out (after switching to an RE) that the real reason for my losses was a large growth in my uterus.  Once removed, I did have another loss but it was ectopic and considered unrelated, just very bad luck.

It took us a year to get pregnant again and needed IVF to do so.  The only change we did was stricter bed rest (3 full days) and added lovenox one day past transfer.  Not sure if it was what allowed me to have a take-home baby but Dr. didn't think it could hurt.

I got pregnant on my own when DS was 6 months old and we opted to not do lovenox again (with approval from a high risk Dr.) I do take aspirin.  I am now 28 weeks along with no issues.

    Good luck with your FET!

  • Thank you ladies for the well wishes!  DavezWife- I have elevated PAI-1.  It was discovered after my 1st m/c so I was sent to a Hematologist who told me that not enough research has been done to determine whether or not it may cause recurrent m/c so we went forward with the second IVF without anything other than low dose aspirin.  I've been doing my own research about PAI-1 and have been able to find some information which indicates that it could be a possiblility for causing the m/c so the RE is going to place me on the Heparin after transfer.  We will find out soon if it will make a difference.  This will be it for us though..although I still have a desire to feel what it is like to have a baby grow in my belly, and hope that this will work I am also perfectly happy with adopting again.

  • My story is a little different in that I had two children and then had two losses, both unexplained.  I was on Lovenox for both of those pregnancies due to a history of a blood clot and was also using progesterone.  After the first loss I found out I have MTHFR and was put on baby aspirin.  After the second loss I had some extra immune testing done which showed elevated natural killer cells, although a subsequent test showed they were normal.  All the other tests were also normal.

With my next prengancy I took dexamethasone, stayed on the baby aspirin and lovenox, took a TON of progesterone, took extra folic acid and b vitamins along with what seemed like a million other vitamins/supplements and I also had acupuncture weekly.  Right after I found out I was pregnant I had weekly blood tests to check my natural killer cells and when they became too elevated I received IV intralipids.  I did that through 14 weeks at which point I had weaned off the dexamethasone and the progesterone.  I stayed on the baby aspirin until 36 weeks and the lovenox up until 24 hours before my induction.

I'm glad you had such a wondeful adoption experience and hope your next cycle goes well.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
