Anyone do this diet with injections after a pregnancy?

Re: HCG Diet

  • these fad diets are ridic and usually unsafe.  You need a minimum of 1200 cals (1800 if BF) just to sustain your body, less than that is dangerous for your body and likely to screw up your metabolism.  Diet and exercise...burn more calories than you eat, its simple and safe and the only truly effective and SUSTAINABLE way to lose weight.

Are you asking because you're interested in doing it?  if that's the case....

     DONT.

Because it is a starvation diet and that is never afe and it will WRECK your body.  You'll lose muscle mass, and slow down your metabolism.  And once you give up on the dangerous 500 calories a day rule (and you will fail, because it is not sustainable) any weight loss will return and then some because your body will be storing fat faster than you'd ever want.

That "diet" is a complete fraud.  It's like starving yourself and taking a placebo, then claiming the placebo helped you lose weight. Rediculous.

THIS. One of my former students (I'm a professor) who had a baby the same week I did did this diet. Ugh. When we were talking about breastfeeding, she said, "Oh, my milk dried up because I did the HCG diet." *face palm*

She is a smart young woman otherwise. I hate to sound like a b!tch, but I couldn't believe she did something like this to herself.

  • Just going to basically c&p what I posted in another HCG post.

Taking hormones, limiting yourself to 500 calories per day, headaches, depression, blood clots, nausea, hairloss, and wrecking your metabolism is NOT healthy.

Of course you'll lose weight if you only eat 500 calories per day, that isn't even enough to support normal brain function. But the instant you stop the diet you'll gain it all back (and likely then some since your metabolism will be ruined).

Add to this the fact that (1) there are no studies showing the efficacy of HCG as a way to lose weight, (2) HCG was recently listed as a "banned substance" in baseball because it was being used as a steroid, and (3) the FDA recently banned the OTC use of HCG as a diet supplement. So no, there is NO WAY I would ever consider the HCG diet.

Here's a link with more info about the FDA ban...

  • I live in Europe and the HCG diet has been around for 50 years here --- I asked my OB about it and not only did they support it but they will provide the HCG injections and monitor me thru the diet. I was shocked that they offer the diet. But of course you cannot do it till after breast feeding.

What the FDA has banned is the OTC HCG not the prescription HCG that you must get from a Dr.

After any diet you will gain back if you do not change your lifestyle. I agree that 500 cal is not enough to function alone which is why you cannot do the diet without the HCG. What surprised me most about the diet was how you lose all the fat and cellulite -- most diets still leave you with cellulite.

I have been doing my research on the diet and read the original info/book on the Italian-based Dr Simeons who created this diet plan (Pounds & Inches). It's quite fascinating if you take the time to actually read up on it. I too was a total skeptic and thought the diet was insane but after reading the research, it's quite interesting and to hear that it's been in Europe for over 50 years was interesting too!

Big Pharma Co's don't want us to know about this diet or they would all go bankrupt in their billion dollar drugs to help you lose weight.....

  • you are clearly going to do what you want so i don't know why you asked.  Medical grade or not, there is NOTHING safe about 500 calos a day with or without HCG.  There are better smarter safer ways to lose weight.  just because its approved in Europe doesn't make it wise.

The HCG does not provide any calories or nutritional value so you are still subsisting on 500 calories a day. Which is dangerously low. And your second sentence has no evidence to back it up. There are no independent scientific studies showing that HCG is effective at supressing your appetite, helping you lose weight, or helping you lose fat or cellulite. If I were you, before I seriously considered this diet I'd spend some time reading unbiased articles about the efficacy and side effects - not a book written by the person who came up with the diet.
  • There is a huge handful of women in my office on this diet.  They've all lost weight - some of them have lost a lot.  But little by little, every single one of them are blowing right back up after they stop.  A few are even bigger than when they began in the first place.  One woman ended up having to have her ute lining scraped out because it wasn't shedding itself, likely due to the HCG.

  • No way.  It's dangerous and damaging to your body.  anyone I've known whose been on it has gained it all back.  Wouldn't you rather take the time to change your lifestyle and get itoff the healthy way

Just my two cents. I tried it to lose 10 lbs and by day 3 I was laying on the floor while my chicken cooked because I had so little energy and that night when I got up to go to the  bathroom I passed out. I've tried a lot of fad diets and that was the 1st time I've ever been truly scared.

ETA: I lost 130lbs 10 years ago and 70 after my pregancy. Both times I didn't use any fad diets or quick fixes. Just healthy food and exercise. Those were the only 2 times I have not gained the weight back too.

That's terrible! My understanding is it's impossible to only consume 500 calories without the real HCG injections. The FDA is banning homeopathic HCG that usually comes in a liquid or tablet taken by mouth. You must have a Dr's script to get the real HCG injections --- do you remember how you took HCG, it sounds like it was not the real deal.

Thankfully you were not hurt when you passed out, quite scary. Thanks for sharing.
