Worried about weight & pregnancy

Hi,

We are just start to TTC and I am not in shape.

Im overweight for my short 5'3" height, but I am fairly strong, don't get winded easily and can hold my own during running or yoga. But I have more belly fat than I care to admit (can suck in really good & hide it!) and I'm afraid it'll get out of control.

Here's my issue, people who are already moms, I'm hoping you can inspire me, if I get pregnant (yay!) and go the 9 mo, I plan to eat as healthy as humanly possible. No fast food, little to no sweets, etc. I also want to exercise the whole time, walking a lot, light weights, maybe light yoga.

So my main issue here is that I don't want to be pregnant and start getting huge and be so upset after having a kid that I am "flubby" and my body is a frraking wreck!

Please help, have any of you gotten in Better shape after? Or maintained a decent weight while pregnant?

Im all for the gaining weight, I know it's natural and I want what's best for baby, I'm just trying to save what's left of my small body self-esteem. :(

Re: Worried about weight & pregnancy

  • My mom was a yo-yo dieter who gained 70 lb while pregnant with me, and lost it all after she had me.

I'd suggest starting your pregnancy regime now so you can get yourself into the best shape you can while TTC, and just continue that through pregnancy and beyond.

  • i was also worried about weight gain, as i'm overweight as well. i'm now about 22 weeks in and i haven't gained anything. i found that not eating "for two" is the answer. i was worried i would gain 70 pounds or something, which obviously i wouldn't want to do. as long as you're not using your pregnancy as an excuse to eat like a cow, i think any weight you gain will be baby and healthy body weight. of course, you should ask your doctor.
  • Thanks ladies!

Dahlia, I couldn't agree more. My husband is very healthy and we've had long discussions about people using pregnancy as an excuse for eating!!

I refuse, I want to stay as healthy as possible. Better continue to work out!
