Has anyone done this? I EBF my daughter and would at least like to provide breast milk from birth through flu season for the trio if possible. I assume I will need to pump to establish supply anticipating nicu time and the babies being too small to effectively nurse but any tips and tricks would be appreciated.

Re: Breastfeeding triplets?
I second that. If anyone has ideas they are much needed! Thanks
I also plan to BF my triplets as much as possible.
I am pumping for 2 of mine the third will latch sometimes but gets formula more. It is hard work I am tied to the pump and while I have a good supply I can't get ahead of them to get a freezer stash going. My 3 were born at 35 weeks and spent time in NICU that effected 2 of them from latching.
Right now I am doing ok cause have help with DS1 but not sure can keep it up once no more help. Nights is the worst for the pumping cause they eat every 3 hours so by time feeding then pumping I am getting 1-1 1/2 hours of sleep then time to feed again. I never found many things to help with BF triplets either. Good luck.
Do you have a Lactation Consultant at the hospital where you will deliver, or a La Leche League in town? I would contact them now and maybe go to some meetings too... see what sort of advice they can offer you and who might be available to help once the babies come.
I will say this. I struggled with BFing DS1 and he was never EBF, but he did nurse till he was 16 months old! Any breastmilk is better than none, so even if you have to supplement with formula, whatever you can give the babies will be beneficial!
you might want to page glowconsin.
she has triplets (6 weeks old or so i think) and i know she is pumping for her babies. she may have some tips/resources for you!
Didn't JenandTonica exclusively feed her triplets breastmilk? I'm pretty sure she did.
Anyone have a link to her blog?
If not, OP, try paging JenandTonica. I haven't seen her on her in awhile, but other people on her know her and may be able to flag her on SAIF or something.
ditto to this, pretty much. i pumped for 8 weeks, but couldn't even give them just one bottle a day of BM, so i gave up at that point. hopefully you won't have any problems since you BFed your first child, but don't feel bad if you don't make enough for three.

My blog * We made the national news!
I believe lnle also pumped for/nursed her triplets.
I EBF my twins until they were a year and we introduced milk. They still nurse before bed at night. Staying hydrated, eating right, and having a very supportive DH were all key for me nursing my twins. I went back to work at 8 weeks, but was able to pump and keep my supply up.
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks.
Do you have link to her blog our trips are close in age and.would love to read about hers.
i don't know that she has a blog! i will find out
awww, thanks for remembering me! Here are my vague memories of what I did:
-started pumping at the hospital w/in 2 hours of delivery and kept pumping every 3 hours around the clock
-put babies to the boob every 2-3 hours and had them practice latching and sucking. they were born at 35 weeks and did not have any nicu time, but they still didn't get the hang of nursing right away.
-Once we all got home, I kept pumping around the clock and trying to get them to nurse. Around the time of their EDD (1 mo old), 2 of them got the hang of it and I got to nurse them more often. Still had to pump for the 3rd - even with a nipple shield she was never as good at nursing.
-Once I went back to work at 3 months (egads!) I kept pumping and nursing but had to supplement with formula b/c I couldn't keep up with their needs while I was at work.
-I kept pumping until 9 months. It was very emotional to turn the pump in! (oh yeah, I had a medela hospital pump). So Zoey stopped getting BM entirely when I stopped pumping.
-Abby nursed until 10 months, and Lucas until about 11. They self-weaned.
Good luck! It CAN be done! I second the recommendation for Mothering Multiples. And I agree you have to stay hydrated, eat a TON, and have a great support system.
A hospital pump is definitely worth it. A lot of insurance companies will cover the rental cost for a while, especially with any NICU time, so that could get you started. I saw a HUGE difference between my rental symphony and my home-use pump in style.
