So I finally got the crib together today and am so excited to get everything put together. I know I need to wash the sheets but what about the waterproof mattress cover that won't touch baby's skin? I wasn't planning on washing the crib skirt but will wash the blankets. Any tips/feedback?
TIA!
Re: Washing Baby's Bedding
I washed it all, but it was a wrinkled mess before washing, and that helped me iron out all the creases in the bed skirt. Honeslty, I needed enough stuff to make a whole load for the washer. I threw my nursing bras in there too. Might as well get all the bang for my Tide-free-and-clear buck. That stuff is expensive!
If it doesn't touch the baby, you probably don't need to wash it, though. I would still do the mattress pad.
I didn't wash the bedskirt, or the bumper and quilt (with my first two)
I will wash all sheets, mattress covers, stay dry covers, swaddlers, and blankets
I think it's a good idea to wash the waterproof mattress cover just b/c baby will be exposed to any allergens on it between the sheet, but that's just me! if not, just take the hose to the vacuum and go over it?
GL!
It is also a good idea to wash them just to see how they hold up after the first washing. Some of the waterproof mattress covers that I was looking at had bad reviews just because people said that they "fell apart" or "shrunk" when they washed them- even after following the laundering instructions.
So wash them now just to see how they hold up- that way if they fall apart, you have time to return them and get a better one. You don't want to discover that AFTER baby gets here.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I plan on washing everything but the crib skirt and the curtains. Though I might if I need something to make a full load.
