Hello ladies!
I'm 12 DPO for IUI #3 with a WTF appointment set up with my RE in January if my blood test results on Tuesday do not reveal a BFP. I hate that so much of this process is so out of my control, so I'm considering acupuncture. Does anyone have any recommendations for an acupuncturist in NoVA? I live in Fairfax and work in Arlington, so while something that falls in between would be great--I'm flexible.
Have any of you gone through similar treatments? If so, could you share what to expect and/or how long you participated in treatment? I really have no clue what to expect and I'd like to go into a consultation a bit informed.
Thanks gals.
Re: Need rec for Acupuncturist specializing in infertility
I did acupuncture for my successful IUI cycle. I went to Pulling Down the Moon, which is in Rockville and is associated with Shady Grove. I don't know if it worked because of the acupuncture, but after the acupuncture appointments I felt amazing and my body felt relaxed in a way it hadn't been for years.
I don't have any personal recs in NoVa but someone on the board referred me to someone in Mclean. I went with PDtM instead but I liked the person in McLean on the phone.
Good luck!
I went to Joanne Weinman in McLean. I highly recommend her. I started seeing her after my 3rd iui ended in m/c. I really think she helped our first ivf cycle be successful. I was less stressed and more at peace with the ivf cycle then I had been during our iuis.
I saw her once a week for several months. It's an hour long session.

I think it was me. Ive seen Alexander Maines, who has offices in Bethesda and McLean. I saw him for migraines but he also treats infertility.

I came on this board asking the same question earlier this year and Joanne was who I was referred to. I think she's wonderful. She's knowledgeable, caring, and down-to-earth. I love asking her about the philosophy behind what she tells me to do, and she answers all my questions. Here's her website: https://www.4acupuncture.info/
She told me most of her successes happen after about 5 or 6 months. (The first 6-8 weeks may be weekly visits, then the following months I would get 2-3 treatments depending on what was going on with my cycle.) I started with her in May after two IUIs had resulted in only chemical pregnancies. I had 4 other unsuccessful IUIs and was "done" with Shady Grove as of Nov. 1 because I didn't want to do IVF. By this point I had also taken some supplements and changed my diet to optimize my chances with PCOS. I was shocked to find out I ovulated (for the first time on my own in two years) AND conceived on my own our first unmedicated cycle away from Shady Grove's care - got my BFP on Dec. 9. While I'm not sure right now if my pregnancy will last (you can see details here if you want https://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/61689446.aspx ), I'm amazed at how my body has changed and am confident that I'll conceive again on my own in the future.
Best wishes to you! If you have any other questions, please feel free to write me at dmclaughlin AT mail2dc DOT com.
Your story has inspired me and I left a message for Joanne. I'm going to Shady Grove and have a WTF appointment set up next week, which will be after 3 failed IUIs. I just turned 39, so time is not on my side.
Congrats on your surprise BFP and I hope you hear good news at your appointment this week.
