Jury Duty and DH

My DH got jury duty summons a month ago and starts on Tuesday.  He called in and he does indeed need to show up Tuesday morning.  He has been off since the 22nd with me on vacation and now he will be at the court house for who knows how many days and then after that (hopefully!!!) we'll have our baby.  I am trying not to freak out, but really out LO could show up any day and I am getting a little worried he may need to leave me in the hospital and go attend jury duty!  Moreover, even if she does wait until he's done, he will have been away from work for two and a half weeks already.  He is starting a new position at work (much better position!) as soon as he returns and January is their busiest month.  We didn't chose for him to make that switch this month, but when the boss tells you you are moving to a new department we decided you best just do it.  Needless to say, we are both a little concerned about what the next two weeks are going to bring.  I do not want anyone else in the delivery room with me, but do you think there's any chance they would let him leave the courthouse is I go into labor?

ETA: My spelling and grammar were terrible, my sincere apologies!

Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Re: Jury Duty and DH

  • I'm amazed they said he still had to go. Usually they ask you some questions once you get there for selection, he should just tell them the situation and most likely he won't be picked for a jury.

  • I would guess if he tells them his wife is due any any day that they won't pick him. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to not serve and I think that would be one. The last time I went there was a BFing mother whom got to go home because they figured it would be too conflicting. I know it's a different issue, but they will listen/take these things into account.

  • Chances are they won't choose him. They have way too many people there to choose from, and narrow it down by asking questions. So he just needs to speak up during the selection process and let them know that you're having a baby any day and they won't choose him.
