Baby Shower Venues in Suffolk County?

Hi All,

I am 21 weeks along, due March 30th, and my sister is throwing me a baby shower on February 12th. We are starting to look at places and I am having trouble finding something that would be a good fit.

We are having a big shower with 50+ people. My husband is vegetarian (as was I before I got pregnant and started craving meat like a mad woman) and many of our friends and family are also vegetarian and vegan. We lean towards mediterranean foods but have also been considering something more like a tea with little finger foods and sandwiches for the shower.

Most of the places we are finding are brunch heavy and I am not a fan of breakfast food. It doesn't have to be strictly vegetarian. I am happy to have meat but the lunch offerings for most of these brunch places are things like smoked salmon, antipasto platters with cold cuts, and sushi, none of which I can eat while pregnant.

I also have gestational diabetes and while I would like to include some for my guests, I also want to enjoy the food, so I can't have too many sweets and over do it with pastries.

I am wondering if anyone might have any suggestions for a good place in Suffolk County. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks so much!

  • Hi,

I have been to the following places just for dinner or lunch (not a party), but perhaps they will work for you ...

The Irish Coffee Pub (Islip) - they have beautiful rooms upstairs that should accommodate a shower of your size.  Also, there is Milk and Sugar Cafe in Bayshore - I am pretty sure they have private functions at their restaurant across the street called The Victorian Tea Room.

     Hope this helps!  Have fun!

  • Thanks for the suggestion. We did check all of those places out but they never got back to our inquiries. Oh well.

We decided to have the shower at The Fifth Season restaurant in Port Jefferson. Excellent, locally sourced, organic food; vegan and vegetarian options; great service; and significantly less expensive than other places. Plus, they got back to us. That goes a long way.

  • Hi!

I'm sorry to hear that the places I suggested didn't get back to you ... that's definitely a bad reflection on them!

Am happy to hear that you found a place you like!!  Hope you all have a wonderful time at your shower ... enjoy!  =)

  • Since you posted this a while ago, I don't now if you still need suggestions. If you are still looking, you might want to consider The Curry Club. We had our wedding ceremony and reception there (we were at the Lake Grove location but that since closed). They were amazing and very accommodating.

I'm the only vegetarian in the family but we were able to get a good mix of dishes. They are even willing to make non-Indian dishes as well. We had a tray of baked ziti for guests unfamiliar with Indian cuisine. They would have been willing to do a taco bar or anything else we wanted. We planned our wedding in three weeks and they were so helpful in getting everything together. I know the stony brook location should be able to accommodate 50 people.

Another option might be Tula Kitchen in Bay Shore. The food is great but they weren't too quick in returning our calls (but I believe the person in charge of parties had a loss in her family).

My American option, John Harvard's in Lake Grove.
