Hi everyone,
I'm being induced on Tuesday (3 days before his due date) because of GD and high blood pressure. I'm 2-3 cm dilated and 80-90% effaced but no contractions and baby is still really high.
I've been trying to get this baby to come on his own but no luck so far. I've tried the red raspberry leaf tea about four cups a day the past week or two, the exercise ball an hour and a half the past two nights, and sex every night. Did anyone have success with these things and maybe I'm just not doing them enough?
I'm wondering if I should try castor oil but heard it can make you feel really sick. Does anyone know how long you feel sick for?
Any other suggestions I can try? Thanks!
Re: Last ditch efforts before induction? Please help!
One of the tricks where I live, is to go for a ride on a snowmobile. Not sure if you are in a snowy area, but our neighbours daughter did some laps around the neighbourhood during the first snow fall on her dad's machine and she went into labour that night. During the warm weather, everyone says to go for a bumpy boat ride.
Walk, sex, spicy food. Good luck!

I agree, there are things that can "get the ball rolling", but it won't KEEP rolling or progress if your body just isn't ready yet. You may start to get contractions and they may fade, or if your body is ready it may continue. And half the time i wonder if half these people were going to go into labor anyways despite what they did to "cause it to happen". Either way, as others have suggested, take long walks, have sex, etc. But don't get yourself sick just to push things along when nothing is guaranteed to even work... GL!
I asked the dr to strip my membranes at my last internal but because I was two days short of 39 weeks he wouldn't do it. He said going by the textbook drs aren't supposed to do it until 39 weeks. I talked to the midwife at the practice a few days later and she said she would do it for me the day before the induction which is Monday. I hope that is enough time for it to work before Tuesday morning!
As for the nipple stimulation, does it only work if it's pleasurable? My nipples have been sensitive and uncomfortable. Might it still work despite that? If so, I'm willing to try!
Thanks!
Typically by nipple stimulation, they don't mean foreplay. My friend had to use nipple stimulation while at the hospital, and they hooked her up to a breast pump to do it. So no, it's not about it being pleasurable. When your nipples are sucked on, it can cause your uterus to contract (this happens after the baby is born, too. The baby breastfeeding will cause uterine contractions.)
This. Natural induction methods only work if you're borderline about to go into labor anyway. I know you don't want to be induced, but don't hurt yourself trying to start things as your body may not be truly ready.
Thanks everyone. I'll keep you updated!
