to be honest they wean themselves. It is kind of a developmental thing. If they start playing more than sleeping for a week in the morning nap...then try a few days without it and see how it goes.
My almost 11 month old skipped one morning nap this week and was a complete basket case. However, another baby might not need it at around 12 months. My older daughter gave it up just in time for the baby to be born (couldn't she have waited a month or two )
I agree w/ PP that they will wean themselves. I think btwn 12-18 months is normal. I know my DD won't be ready for a while. She's shortened her first nap but still really acts like she needs it.

she was about 16 months or so.
My almost one year old has already weaned himself. He doesn't go down for a nap until 12-1230 and will sleep for about 2 hours.
I thought it might be a little early, so I tried putting him in at 10 still for a week, but he wouldn't go down.
