Awesome way to start the New Year

I posted back on Sunday about my FIL being in the hospital. We got a call this evening from MIL and it was FIL fully lucid and awake wishing us a Happy New Year! He's been out of it since last Saturday and has had daily dialysis since Monday, removing a total of 13.5 liters (that's 3.5 gallons) of fluid from his body.

We made the 4 hour drive to see him on Monday and were there until Thusday. Because I'm pg his doctor pretty much banned me from his room (his infection is kinda like MERSA, very difficult to treat and once you have it you have it for life). We weren't sure what is outcome would be when we left on Thursday and had pretty much said our final goodbyes in case he didn't/doesn't pull through.

We're hoping he's turned the corner and is on his way to recovery but it will be several weeks before he can go home. Once his infection is under control they will transfer him to a nursing home where he'll have physical and occupational therapy so he can return home.

A huge weight has been lifted and I could tell Hubby was much more at ease this evening. He's been hoping and praying that his dad pulls through and can meet our LO and right now things are looking up.
