Diapers

I know this has been discussed before but what kind of diapers do you use and why? What have you used that you don't like? Do you think high price=better quality?

I'm still using Swaddlers and I'm afraid to try any other brand. It seems to me like they are really great quality and that the price is worth it. I was looking at a Luvs diaper and it just looks/feels super cheap but the price is so much better.

Re: Diapers

  • we're also using Swaddlers still.  We did use a small package of Huggies but hated them (they worked fine - no leaks or anything, we just didn't like them).  Not sure we'll try any other brands

  • Right now we are using swaddlers. We plan to use gdiapers but her poops are so liquid we were having to change the covers with every poopy diaper.

  • Swaddlers were what the hospital used, but we bought all Huggies before DS was born. We ended up buying 1 big box of Swaddlers NBs and now we're back in to the Huggies we bought before he was born. I don't have a preference between the two brands, they have both worked about the same for us.

A friend bought me some Luvs 1s but we haven't used those yet, would love for them to work the same as the others so we can save some money!

  • We were gifted a bunch of swaddlers and we like then, but I might buy a small pack of the up&up target brand to try when we run out. They are a lot cheaper and get pretty good reviews. Figured it is worth a try to save some money.
  • Right now-Huggies because they were free.  They seem to work fine.  When we run out, we have some Swaddlers.  Pretty much we only have Huggies or Swaddlers...

  • DS 's cord fell off today (finally) so we're using cloth now. But we have swaddled as back ups just in case. We tried huggies but hated them.

  • Our favorite are Pampers. Right now that is what we are using but we also have 3 packages of Huggies, those are ok to. We bought the Huggies because they were on sale and I had coupons-each pack was like $2-$3-couldn't pass it up. MIL also just brought us 2 huge packs of Pampers in size 2 (186 count each) :) .

When all those are gone we will use Target brand. That is what we use for DD-when cheap enough Pampers but any other time Target. Also, Walgreens brand are actually good to. We can't stand Walmart brand, waste of the little money they cost!

  • We use Swaddlers mostly. We have gotten some Huggies and used those as well and they seem okay. With DD, Huggies were nasty so they seemed to have improved over the last 2 years.

  • Pampers- almost in size two already!! We like them cuz they smell good like baby powder, have a wet indicator, and don't leak like the huggies did for us

  • So far Swaddlers are my favorites. We're working our way through a pack of Huggies. They are ok, but we've had a few more leaks. I haven't tried the Target house brand diapers yet, but plan to. If they suck they suck, but it would be nice to save a few bucks here and there.
  • We're using Pampers swaddlers because that's what the hospital gave us and we like them. We put huggies on him once or twice and they seem fine too. We have a bunch of both so I plan to use up the swaddlers first then the huggies. We may be switching to cloth in a couple months.

  • From a 2nd time mom:  I bought the swaddlers with DD#1 and totally fell for the "they cost more so they must be better." I got over that when DD#1 was about 8 months old and tried Luvs. They worked just fine...no leaks.  With DD#2 I started out with Target (up and up) brand and love them!  She was in the swaddlers while in the NICU and I wasn't impressed since the tabs sometimes fell off.  We have had no issues with the Target brand and I plan to continue with them.

  • We've kind of had a fruit salad of diapers because we got so many little packs as gifts. Its kind of nice though because we have found what we like/dont like...

I like the Pampers Swaddlers  - we have several boxes of those ... fit great, and I love the wetness indicator.

I also like the LUVS - they fit just like the Swaddlers and we have had zero leaks. I didnt know if I would like them or not but they really are nice and once we run out of Pampers (might be a while) we will switch to LUVS assuming they continue to fit well.

We do NOT love Huggies. The NB were too big and crunchy and just didnt seem to fit right. When I used to teach in a toddler classroom a few years ago I had a child get a chemical burn from the Huggies diapers because they are experimenting with their diaper "formula"

  • Right now we are using a pack of Huggies size 1 that we received as a gift, but we really like the Pampers Swaddlers best. Can anyone tell me how the Target Up & Ups compare to the Pampers? I really want to try them to save some money.

Target's Up and Up are just as absorbent and I like the tabs on the Up and Up better than the pampers since they are much sturdier and elastic. I find the Up and Up to fit better...pampers seemed lower in the back, which could lead to blow outs. Up and Up does not have the wetness indicator, but I call that "diapers for dummies" anyway, so I really have no use for a wetness indicator. I love the up and up.

  • We're doing the Swaddlers too. I love the wetness indicator so not sure I could do without it at this point, but probably once he's getting bigger, having bigger pees and I'm not so worried about diaper count to report to pedi I may be willing to branch out.

We do have some regular Huggies in Size 1 from a diaper cake from one of my showers, so I'm sure we will use those. I'm curious to see what you all think of the Target brand that are planning to try it - please post opinions after you try it. I know I get a lot of my products in that brand and like some of them even better than the name brand.

  • We use Swaddlers.  I do not see us changing either.  We tried BRU brand and Huggies and hated both.  DJ would pee through those (even with the canon firing down) but while in the Swaddlers he could go for a longer period of time at night without being wet.  I would rather pay a little more and not have to wake a sleeping baby to change him.

  • The hospital used Swaddlers and sent us home with some.  We like them but have a bunch of BRU brand diapers that work just as well and are half the price.  We have one box of Swaddlers that came from BRU that I am going to take back and get 2 boxes of the BRU brand.  BRU brand has a high back so we don't worry about blow outs, DD tends to poop towards the edge of her diaper and they work awesome no leaks or anything so far, and pee hasn't been an issue either they are super absorbent.
  • oh I forgot about Up & Up...those I may try

  • Huggies, which he always seems to pee out of, and Swaddlers. We're switching to cloth after we're out of disposables, we have sizes 1-3 that someone gave us which will be used while we're out.

  • The Huggies newborn size fit my LO best. They also have the wetness indicator like the pampers but fit up to 10 pounds instead of 8. We are currently using pampers size 1 and like them. My next box is Costco brand size 1/2. I haven't tried them yet but they get rave reviews and are dirt cheap. I think they were 16 or 17 cents per diaper. Worth looking into if you are a Costco member.
